[February 2008, 500ml bottle from Sainsburys Reading] Huge waft of malt on opening the bottle. Impressive creamy head unfortunately dissipates quickly. Beer has a very mild fizz; about the right amount to go with the beer. The taste is a lot less malty than the smell. There are some red fruit and raisins in there too, maybe a small slice of fruit cake (only in the flavour, I don’t mean that there’s soggy cake in the bottle!). Finish is moderately bitter hops, slightly astringent. Overall this would be quite pleasant for a 4% ale, but the flavours were rather weak and insipid compared to what you would expect for an ale of this strength. In fact, it didn’t seem to go to my head as I normally expect a strong ale to - are you sure this is 6.5%? I think Wychwood could improve this one with a bit of effort - it feels a bit half-hearted at present. Are they not trying their hardest because they’re contract brewing it?

[500ml can at my Dad’s] Large creamy head that dissipates very quickly. Didn’t taste too much like a canned bitter. Quite sweet, slightly malty, a hint of earthy hops, but mainly tastes weak, watery and brown. A nothing beer, like they’ve taken a "proper" beer and watered it down. As a result, went down very easily, leaving no trace of an aftertaste! I guess you get what you pay for...

Vague aroma of dark fruits. Taste of dark berries and tart fruits. Brush of hop resin in the ending. Nice amber body colour under a slightly off-white head. Rather solid mouthfeel. 500ml from Sainsbury’s, Tottenham Court Road (St. Giles hotel 29.04.2008)

[i] [b] Bottle, from Loz’s parents fridge 03-04-08 [/i][/b] Light golden in col,our with a white fluffy head. Very little taste at all aside from detecting a real commercial industrialness to this. It was good for what it did and that was to act as a don’t touch the side’s type off beer whilst you take the top off of something else better in the meantime, so in that particular field I would say it excels, just about everywhere else it fails miserably.

Medium offwhite lasting head. Amber body. Sweet fruity caramelly aroma with wooden metallic notes. Sweet wooden rich fruity malty taste with a dry background. Caramelly, spicy notes with peppery hops. Long, dry wooden metallic malty aftertaste. Some roastiness. Nice, drinkable. (0.5l bottle from Sainsbury’s, London.)

Crystal clear coloured golden body with a nice sized white head - much nicer than it’s ’special’ cousin. Aroma of fresh lemons, malt, hops and a bit of metal. Light-bodied; Funky malty flavour with no hops, sweetness or anything pleasant. Aftertaste shows metal and blandness - seriously, this one is water! Overall, definitely passable - don’t worry about picking this up, unless you really want a sub-par english beer! I sampled this 440 mL can purchased at Sainsbury’s in London (Fulham Broadway), England on 08-March-2008.

Amber coloured body with a very thin slightly off-white coloured head. Aroma of metal, light malt, english hops and a bit of toffee - nothing special. Medium-bodied; Strong malty flavour with some light hops and a metallic twang that lasts for quite a while. Aftertaste shows some light sweetness and a bit of hops - once again, nothing too pleasant. Very forgettable overall - not really worth trying! I sampled this 500 mL can purchased at Sainsbury’s in London (Fulham Broadway), England on 08-March-2008.

(bottle) Hazy, pale golden colour with a small blonde foamy head. Slightly sweet and yeasty malt aroma with light-fruity (citrus) and woody hoppy notes. Light-bitter flavour with soft sweetish edges, light to medium bodied with a moderate carbonation. Initially malty, slightly chalky and subtle fruity taste; moderately dry and bitter finish with citrousy and slightly herbal hoppy notes. Decent beer (05.03.08).
