Bottle. Black with a thick brown head. Aroma of coffee and port. Taste of coffee, bitter chocolate, and a little tobacco. A thick and filling beer. Unpleasant bitter finish, but still very good.

Sampled cask conditioned at Oliver Twist, Stockholm, Sweden.
Pale amber. Rich flowery aroma. Sweet and fruity. Light bodied with rounded mouthfeel. Offputting finish with notes of compost heap and fermented peas.

(500 ml bottle, ABV 5,2%). Black (actually very dark ruby) with a good tan head and nice lacing. Aroma is all chocolate and roasted malts. When you expect something cloyingly sweet (chocolate in beer - "uff da"!): Surprise! - a perfectly rounded and well balanced flavour, loads of chocolate but never sickly, just the right roasted bitterness in the aftertaste. This beer is a real treat - I would be happy to drink it each and every afternoon, but just one bottle a day!

Had a rating of this in the can - why didn't it switch over when they removed the cans as an individual beer? Oh well, here goes. This is a classic oatmeal stout. I used to like it a lot more. Aroma of sweet oatmeal - slight coffee flavor - roasty notes and some swetness. Slight bitter finish. Somewhat thin bodied, but will always be a classic to me.

(Bottle served at the BC Beer Café in Helsinki). Beer is pitch black (okay, VERY dark brown), low to no head. There's some irritating carbonation that pricks on the tongue - if given the choice, I would most likely prefer some nitrogen in a beer of this style (I know that many of you will disagree with me on that!) Moderate roast aroma, the rounded flavour has some coffee notes with a strong oatmeal presence, hardly any bitterness to match the sweetness. Porridge aftertaste. Very filling - I had it 1 hour after a solid breakfast, and it was like having another full meal ("liquid oatmeal porridge"). Of course it's not a bad beer, but as my expectations were sky high, you'll have to forgive me for being a bit disappointed.

Clean amber color. Difficult to believe it's a real IPA, with such poor character, from the aroma to the flavor, with an uncommon white sugar note mixed with some malt; the bitterness is just sufficient, and no hop aroma. Still some sweetness in the palate, along with the bitterness (artificial sweetners?).

An amber beer with a fine head thogh fast disappearing. The aroma is slightly fruity with hints of spices. It has a good malt sweetness, but is only slightly bitter - not like an IPA - but OK for a light ale.

(Draught). Debatable if this is a bitter or a Scottish ale. Copper coloured. Flavourful, rich malty taste. Low bitterness. Not bad.
