Description
The organic brewing project of Gert Jordens, official since 2010 but active as a home brewer since 1999. Originally the beers were made at the Proefbrouwerij but production moved to Anders (and sometimes Strubbe) in 2013. One of the very few Belgian brewing companies which produce only organic beers; hops are exclusively sourced from Joris Cambie's organic hop farm in Poperinge. Exports 22% of its production, primarily to the Netherlands.

33cl Dumpy brown bottle, best before 19 Nov 2011, poured into a Duvel glass on 10 Mar 2011, slowly, ensuring no sediment entered the glass. Mid golden body, almost dull and certainly not the regular bright tripels often found in Belgium. Clear with small bubbles rising through body from the Duvel ’D’. On top was a full, deep, white head, impressive considering how slowly I poured the beer. It left some heavy lacing as the beer level fell. The aroma was yeasty and hoppy, with a nutty hints. The refreshingly crisp taste was a good combination of hops and crystal malts. Easy to drink and it hides the alcohol content very well, I was impressed. A good beer and one of the many enjoyable Belgian tripels I’ve had the pleasure of reviewing.

This 0.75 Litre cork and caged bottle was taken at the lovely bar/tasting room of D’elices Et Caprices in Brussels during Dec 2011. The brew is based on the regular Jessenhofke (which has garlic in it) and has extra spices added to those already in the base beer: all the spices are listed on the back label. Our glasses held a slightly hazy body of orange coloured beer, on top a well formed but thin white head, the third pour was a bit cloudier as the sediment left the bottle with the remaining beer. The aroma was an interesting mix of yeasts, herbs and a sweet smell from the malts and other spices used. The taste is a good blend of flavours, sweet and yet semi-bitter, fruity, herbal and earthy, all at the same time. It isn’t bold or brash; more of a subtle, gentle feel to the taste and mouth feel. Carbonisation was just about right and suited the beer nicely. I had another bottle on New Years Eve and found it just as pleasant as the one I reviewed when in Brussels.
