Brewing bold beers from our hilltop in Hebden Bridge and pouring punchy pints from our very own taprooms. We’re resolutely in the business of setting standards, not following trends.

Vocation Catch-Up Paddle Beer#1 of 4. I've been neglecting my local brews, so this afternoon just one aim, one pub, four newbies, starting with the pale golden brew from cask three. A hoppy brew imparting some berry sweetness in both aroma and taste, but light in both areas. It's quite crisp, and easy-drinking.

Handpull cask at Vocation & Co, Sheffield. Pale gold, not quite straw, clear with a flat white head. Fruity, grassy aroma, some bubblegum. Sweet taste, at first anyway, with an almost Belgian yeast quality to the flavour. Maybe I’m imagining it, perhaps if it was called ‘roter Bart’ I’d experience it differently. Soft fruit leading to a bitter astringent finish. Light body, soft carbonation. I’m not overly keen but it’s solid enough.

Hazy yellow with a creamy, white head. Pineapple pith and tangerine aroma. Floral and candy notes underneath. Taste is bitter and citric throughout. Medium bodied, rich, creamy feel. Easygoing. Good one.

440ml can. part of a birthday present from my son and Steph. Drank at home in the early hours of Sunday 8th February 2026. It poured a hazed dull golden colour, on top a white crust. Sweet white chocolate front with a sweet vanilla and raspberry filling, a bit too sweet, even for my sweet tooth.

Sample, thanks fonefan! Hazy pale amber, small head. Generous aroma of papaya and piney tangerine. Mid sweet with rather slender body and crisp, rounded mouthfeel. Tangerine, white currant, pineapple and papaya. Mid bitter finish. Elegant and pleasant.

440ml can, part of a presentation pack I got for my Birthday, cheers Ben & Steph. Poured into the Vocation glass that came with the beers, at home on 2nd February 2026. Black bodied, tanned roof. Mild coconut nose and taste, malty chocolate took over mid sip. Not at rich as I thought it would be, but pleasant enough.

440ml can from a selection box given to me for my 72nd Birthday last year, cheers Ben and Steph. Poured into the Vocation glass from the same box, at home on 1st February 2026. Very dark body, tanned crust that hung around. Surprise, surprise it had the aroma and taste of a chocolate orange, more orange than chocolate in my eyes. The orange isn't sweet, but the lactose and chocolate elements are, different and interesting beer all round.

Can, 7.4%. Pungent aroma, smells a little like tonka bean. Also acidic nose. Cocoa powder. Black colour. Small stable creamy light brown head. The flavour is milk chocolate, lactose to begin with. Later, it turns a little roasted, but still creamy and smooth. I remember not liking matcha, and fortunately this does not taste like that to me.
