In 1965, Lacons were taken over by a Whitbread who closed Lacons down in 1968. Subsequently reclaimed independence in 2013 and started brewing again.

Early on, beers were produced under a number of names, including Courtyard and Wilbur Wood. Launched under the Lacon's Name in May 2013.

Based in Norfolk, Lacons Brewery is home to Lacons Encore, the award-winning amber beer. Our brewing team is committed to using the highest quality Norfolk malt along with the original Lacons yeasts. Gravity cask at Pigs Ear 2017 - London. Pours deep brown with a small, bubbly off-white head. Good snout, dark malts, dried berries, hints of cocoa, licorice. Light to medium sweet flavour with some ashy roast, baking cocoa, more old berries and leather, some smoke. Medium bodied, lightly chewy, with fine carbonation. Good balance at the close, with further restrained smoke, burnt marshmallows, leathery berries, baking cocoa. Pretty fun, pretty dynamic. I like it.
