Cask at the Claret, Croydon. It pours clear amber with a small, bubbly white head. The nose is earthy, toasty grain, cereal leather and mild citrus. The taste is bitter-sweet, sweet tropical fruits, grapefruit, gooseberry, earth, leather and a touch of caramel with a drying finish. Medium body and soft carbonation. Nice sweet fruits on the taste. Not a game-changer, but drinks easy.

From cask. Pours hazy orange with a small white head. Aroma is estery and citrusy fruity. Fruity, estery and light yeasty. Bitter and slight herbal into a mellow wheaty medium dry finish.

Gravity dispense at Pigs Ear ’14, day 1, 02/12/14. Dark mahogany brown with a decent light tan covering. Nose is smoked malt, light roasted notes, dark fruit rinds, toffee, hint of cocoa. Taste comprises more smoke, beach wood smoke, earthy, dark toffee, cocoa rub, light spice. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, semi drying close. Decent smoked porter, good balance and doesn’t deviate too much from the base beer.

Bottle at home, 21st November 14. Been after this one for a while. Pours a large head. Dissipates and leaves a good looking glass. Aroma is dry, cocoa slight sweet, a little liquorice. Taste is dry, cocoa powder, some coffee and a little ash. Nice simple stout.

v284 c5 Cask at the Alehouse, Reading, branded as " Co Ale Ition" with the great strapline of "Insanity against Austerity". Poured amber with a thin white head. Caramel, earth, grass and some citrus. Yer average bitter really. Rather disappointing fare from this normally excellent brewery.
