Description
At Brains we are proud to be Welsh & proud that we remain family owned.

Brains beers were brewed in the Old Brewery on St Mary Street from 1882 right up to 1999 when operating from such a tight city-centre site became unviable. Fortunately, the Cardiff Brewery behind Cardiff Central station was up for sale and Brains production moved to a new home. However exciting new redevelopments in the centre of the city have led to a further move and the building of the brand new state of the art Dragon Brewery in Cardiff Bay which was opened in March 2019.

[on draught at The Turks, Reading] Initially malty, then dry dirty straw flavour; aftertaste bitter with slight sour fruits. A very average British bitter, indistinguishable from so many others I’ve tasted; with so many innovative beers in Britain, it’s a shame that there’s still dull, bland bitters like this dominating the real ale market.

[on Nitrokeg at The Railway Inn, Borth] This is for the "Dark Smooth" version. A decent mild, despite being on Nitrokeg; chocolate and caramel dominate.

[on draught at the Railway Inn, Borth] My friend Justin was raving about this beer and insisted I must try it while in Wales. It’s fruity (plums?) with a hint of spice on the back of the tongue, descending into a dusky maltiness. It’s okay, but nothing special. On the plus side, the excellent landlord in this pub poured the pint, insisted I drink about a quarter of it, then topped it back up again to ensure I got a full pint. What a great fellow!
