Description
At Brains we are proud to be Welsh & proud that we remain family owned.

Brains beers were brewed in the Old Brewery on St Mary Street from 1882 right up to 1999 when operating from such a tight city-centre site became unviable. Fortunately, the Cardiff Brewery behind Cardiff Central station was up for sale and Brains production moved to a new home. However exciting new redevelopments in the centre of the city have led to a further move and the building of the brand new state of the art Dragon Brewery in Cardiff Bay which was opened in March 2019.

Many thanks to Mark for this bottle!! Smooth malty beginning. Moderate roasted bitter, easy to drink with a nice malty roasted back. Very nicht balanced, a bit thin but round and dry roasted.

Cask at Butlers Bell, Stafford I have to declare a vested interest here – the original Reverend James (Buckley) was my great great great grandfather ! Needles to say then, I have been drinking this ever since it was first brewed by Brains. Anyway, it pours the classic “bitter brown” colour with a good cream head and good lacing. Fresh floral hops and a hint of vanilla in the nose. Taste is mainly malty with a touch of ginger, with more ginger in the finish. I may be biased, but I think this is one of the best beers of its type (mainstream bitter)

Cask at Owain Glyndwr. Dark amber, clear, velvety head. Light malty aroma. Taste brings some nutty flavors, and plenty more malt. Creamy feel, light sweetness, tiny bitter bite.

Cask pour at the Duke of wellington. Bright golden pour with a small creamy head. Aroma is fruity and funky. Taste is sweet with some more odd grainy, musty fruit flavors. A bit of a shock at firts, but mellows out as it goes down.

Cask at DoW. Medium golden with a tight, creamy head. Light, sweet malty aroma. Taste becomes more white bread, light malty notes. The cask body saves it though, smooth and silky.

Cask at Duke of Wellington. Almost black, some light comes in through the bottom of the glass and presents mahogany and ruby hues. Silky, creamy head. Aroma is light roast. More roast in the taste, light nutty flavors. Creamy, velvety texture. So full of flavor at only 3.8%.

Third of a pint, hand-pulled in the William Withering, Wellington Shropshire on 12th Oct 2019. Copper body, clean and clear, off-white topping. Malty front to the nose and taste, some orchard fruity notes too, no citrus fruits; what a bonus!
