Established in 1845
Immortalised in the name of one of Fuller’s famous ales, 1845 is a year that will forever be synonymous with Fuller, Smith & Turner. It was then that the partnership papers between the three families were officially signed, marking the start of something very special for London’s pub and beer scene.
However, the Fuller’s story had been brewing long before then.
Beer and pub have played a role in this part of the capital for more than 350 years, dating back to the era of Oliver Cromwell. Back then, pubs were plentiful in number and, in addition, it was quite common for large households to brew their own beer.
In the late 1600s, one such private brewhouse was in the gardens of Bedford House on Chiswick Mall. Another, a far humbler concern, was operating nearby at the cottage of Thomas Urlin.
When Urlin died, the property passed to his widow and son-in-law, a gentleman named Thomas Mawson, who stepped in to take up the reigns as manager. It was he who laid the foundations for a major brewing enterprise – buying The George public house and two adjoining cottages for £70, then later snapping up the brewhouse on Bedford House too.
Thomas Mawson is still honoured today through The Mawson Arms, the pub located at the original brewery site.

This one certainly didn''t stand out. A light citrus hop nose and flavor. Rather lacking in hops for the style

Black, lasting brown head. Pleasant roasted nose. Great roasted malt profile. Thin bodied

Nice amber colur. Caramel and liquorice aroma. Fullbodied and quite sweet with a slightly sourish finish.

Starts with a bitter hop kick, then develops a slight tartness, finally ending with a mildly sweet, malty flavor. Nice lacing on top that leaves traces on the sides of the glass, resting on a burnt copper colored brew with an inviting aroma that reminds me of the better IPAs (The smell reminds me of Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA the most.) I'll certainly be drinking more of this, but probably not until the weather gets warmer. It's more of an early spring or autumn beer.

cask! An amber beer with a good head, but without much aroma. The flavor is a flat cask flavor but with a good malt blend and a slight bitterness. A nice beer - but not exceptional.

A dark red almost black beer with a fine light brown head. The aroma is fruity an slightly smokey. And the flavor is smokey but very mellow - nice but very mainstream for a porter.

Cask Conditioned
Dark color, with brown and red shades, nice creamy cap. Nice aroma, malt, roasted malt, cardboard, coffee, unmalted grains, bran. Very smooth, absolutely chocolatey, with delicate notes of coffee; the necessary residual sweetness.

[Hand pumped, 19-11-2002, 6-4-7-4-14 (3.5)] Amber color, with just a thin collar, beautiful lace. Light aroma of hop. Good mix of hop, malt, light caramel almost turning into faint liquorice; waving between sharp bitterness and a residual sweetness; tar. Ending with a not too aromatic, but extra bitter final.
[Keg, 14-07-2002, 3-3-6-4-13 (2.9)] Amber colour, misty, poor head. Poor aroma. Despite the deceiving aroma, it has a pretty good taste: a quite light malt, that still can give consistency to the body (which is enough smooth, with some sweetness), and a rather powerful hopping, with a long and quite good final.
