Description
Emile Vanhonsebrouck and his wife Louise De Poorter founded the Sint Jozef brewery in Ingelmunster. In 1922 the brothers Paul and Ernest Van Honsebrouck take over the brewery from their mother. In 1953 Luc Van Honsebrouck (son of Paul) becomes director. Luc realizes that the small Sint Jozef brewery isn't able to compete with the large pils breweries. He therefore decides to concentrate on the production of an old brown beer, naming it Bacchus, and he changes the name of the brewery to Vanhonsebrouck. The St-Louis Gueuze and Kriek were officially launched in 1958. In 2009 Xavier Vanhonsebrouck succeeds his father Luc. In 2016 the doors of the old brewery in Ingelmunster are permanently closed. The new site in Emelgem is now home to a brand new, fully integrated brewery, with the equipment to produce all of the Vanhonsebrouck beers. In the meantime Kasteel Brouwerij Vanhonsebrouck becomes the new official name.

Bottle; Sweet carmelly candi, but acidic nose; slightly hazed copper with a small beige head; sweet apply flavor contrasting with a mild tartness, with some oak notes. I wish faros were more available, like the fruit lambics; I enjoy the contrasting sweetness and tartness. Without the baryard aroma notes of the Lindemans Faro, but very similiar in flavor

Bottle Pours a muddy, dark red with a small fizzy light pink head. Heavy coarse sheet os lacing. Lots of raspberry pankacke syrup aroma upfront, with just a bit of the belgian yeast hints comping out. Mainly sweet fruit notes though. Flavor is again very sweet, sugary and lots of rasperries. Slightly tart near the end, but not nearly enough. All but eclipsing the slightly musty Belgian "lambic" funkiness I was hoping for a little more of. Palate was thin, crisp, refreshing, and lively. Tasty, yes. For a sodapop, but lacking the interesting twang I was hoping for.

Hazy, golden pour with average white head. Sweet aroma that is filled with spice and yeast — clove, coriander, alcohol and a hint of ripe fruit. And then there is the note of medicine behind all this that also shows up in the flavor which is moderately sweet and slightly bitter at the end. Medium body and somewhat watery texture. The taste and aroma improved dramatically as the temperature rose above 55 degrees.

Bottle shared with ozujsko at the Hopdevil in Zagreb Poured a darker reddishbrown colour, with a small with nearly no head. The nose was quite vinuous, with hints of malt, yeast and berries and two other things I can’t decipher from my notes... a typical FSA nose. The taste is.. umm.... missing ? Very faint berries and noticable acidity that owns the finish.... if I can use the word finish, because there wasn’t much of a start anyway. F.S.A. Lite. I really want to like van Honsebrouck but I was disappointed so far.

Bottle at the Hopdevil in Zagreb, shared with ozujsko Poured an orange-yellow colour, small white head that went fast... The nose isn’t very appealing... alcohol mainly, with some yeast and banana. The taste is unimpressive.... some fine maltiness drowned in alcohol, some stale dusty yeastiness, hints of grapes and a bit grainy. Ok at best.
