Description
Emile Vanhonsebrouck and his wife Louise De Poorter founded the Sint Jozef brewery in Ingelmunster. In 1922 the brothers Paul and Ernest Van Honsebrouck take over the brewery from their mother. In 1953 Luc Van Honsebrouck (son of Paul) becomes director. Luc realizes that the small Sint Jozef brewery isn't able to compete with the large pils breweries. He therefore decides to concentrate on the production of an old brown beer, naming it Bacchus, and he changes the name of the brewery to Vanhonsebrouck. The St-Louis Gueuze and Kriek were officially launched in 1958. In 2009 Xavier Vanhonsebrouck succeeds his father Luc. In 2016 the doors of the old brewery in Ingelmunster are permanently closed. The new site in Emelgem is now home to a brand new, fully integrated brewery, with the equipment to produce all of the Vanhonsebrouck beers. In the meantime Kasteel Brouwerij Vanhonsebrouck becomes the new official name.

Pour is a pure golden with a large white head. Aroma is lots of vanilla and yeast. Flavor is very bitter with some vanilla and sharp citrus fruits. A bit of smokyness at the end with a even alcohol burn. Prob the best triple of the night in regards to flavor and aroma but the alcohol is powerful.

I liked this. It has some sourness but is obviously sweetened. There is a light barnyard, yeasty aroma. Flavor has more yeast with sugar and just a hint of sourness. Amber in color and well carbonated. Light and refreshing.

Gold color. Thin head but well carbonated. Light fruit in the aroma. Lots of fruit in the flavor and a medium palate. A light and fruity ale, actually pretty good if not great.

Draught as Brigand Kerstbier. Semi-sweet, semi-malty flavour. Finishes with a sour bitterness. Almost clear amber colour. Nice and creamy, stable white head.

(Bottle 25 cl) Slightly cloudy dark red with a creamy, pink head. Extreme raspberry aroma, but it has a very natural feel to it. Rather light-bodied, very sweet yet balanced due to the acidity in the lambic base. The rapberries also really come through in the flavours making this a fresh and delicious fruit beer. Not chemical or artificial in spite of the added flavourings and colorants. Thanks to Kim N for this - I’m quite impressed that you managed to find me a Belgian I hadn’t tried already, and even on the Danish west coast! Cheers buddy. 030307

A dark amber faro with a thick light moka head. Pleasant lactic cheesy aroma, light hosrblanket, cream soda. A sweet beverage with that funky cheese taste, lactic point, berries, and overall pleasant mouthfeel. A good St. Louis product. Bieropholie prvate import.

Bottle: Distinctive reddish-amber coloured,... with a small foamy layer; strong herbal oaky nose with a touch of dried fruit, cocos and a vinous-alcoholic tinge, toasted malt also detectable; sweet flavour - full body; sweet-fruity finish with a touch of herbal bitterness. A bit too sweet to be really well balanced.........

Bottle: Poured a clear medium orangey color faro with a big foamy head with quite good retention. Aroma of sugar with some tart and sourness. Taste is quite sweet which is kind of expected for faro with more tart and sourness and overall complexity then expected from this brewery. Overall, this was better then expected since this brewer is not know for following the traditional lambic way.
