I just finished rating the original and this is also an american dark lager. The original was pretty good. Why have I never rated this tho it is near my fingertips at every store? I spend so much time seeking out craft beers and it’s hard to respect anything that is so obtainable, you take it for granted it will always be there. I have always, for some reason thought of dundees as a macro. Finally, in the right place at the right time I picked up a craft pack. This one had five in it. Twist off 12 oz bottle, nice packaging. Perhaps a sweet aroma in the background of flowers. Pours a little sparkly then the bubbles and lacing disapear. Brown orange brown in my steeler stein. Has more bitter hops in it than the original and the original has none, so this is just a teeny more personality. Also, it seems to be a bit roasty. Though there is a lingering finish in the background of maly hang-on, it’s nothing like the offense implied by La Rossa. This brew is easy to accept, it reminds of of some bocks or octoberfests in a strange sort of way.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a ruby chestnut color with only a trace of a tan head that faded quickly. The aroma was sour tangy malts with a light nutmeg and other vague spices. The flavor was a decent mix of sour tangy and nutty malts with hints of nutmeg and coriander. The finish is dry and bitter and turns fairly unpleasant.

Labelled Special Edition Festive Ale. Pours near ruby colored, but shows a little orange, with a 1 finger beige head, fairly dense. Aroma is mild, but layered with a fruitcake type nose, with elements of dried apricot and nutmeg, also burnt sugar and mild citrus hopping. Appealingly smooth and soft palate upon first sip. Not much overt sweetness is apparent, but a full enough body is there nevertheless. A weak hint of spice comes through immediately as you swallow it, and lingers on the cheeks and sides of the tongue. Not much bitterness at all. So this is like a spiced ale that is weak on spice, weak on malt sweetness, and yet manages to present a fullness of palate that preserves its winter ale essence.

12 oz. bottle. Now, this does start out pretty promising. Nice malty beer smell upon opening, pours a nice brassy bock color under a thin persistent head. Taste is, well, malty, but it still seems to have been cut with corn or sugar. A little extra bitterness helps keep the sweetness in check. It rates at least "average" with me. I don’t really have a handle on this style since there are a lot of American beers labelled "bock" that really aren’t. Does have a dry lager finish, so I’d say yes, it is a lager. The "Ale/Malt Liquor" designation on the back label is probably because at 6.2% abv, it is taxed as a malt liquor in some states.

Bottle picked up at Majestic, Bicester, in a case that showcased three each of four types of beer from the brewery. Light amber coloured beer, some hops and malt on the aroma, which follow through into the taste. Pretty good but not the best of the four.

Bottle picked up at Majestic, Bicester, in a case that showcased three each of four types of beer from the brewery. Amber coloured beer with a medium white frothy head. This beer suprised me by having more of an hoppy aroma that the IPA but where as the IPA has a more punchy hoppy taste this one didn’t share those characteristics quite as well and whilst very nice it came across as being a little bit on the safe side, like the IPA a touch sweet and slips down well but just not quite up there with it’s stablemate.

Bottle picked up at Majestic, Bicester, in a case that showcased three each of four types of beer from the brewery. Pours a copper colour with white foamy head. Hops present on the aroma with an underlying sweet smell also, very tasty with hops really showing through but perhaps a touch sweet all though does finish with bitterness at the end

Bottle. Wheat and banana aroma with note of acidity. Very lightly cloudy yellow amber color with moderate head. Lemon wheat flavor - slight hint of hops. The aroma gave me some hope but the flavor left me flat - an average Am wheat.

12 oz. bottle from Sam’s Wines, Downers Grove. Nice beery smell when I pop the cap. Pours on the light end of the pale ale spectrum, under a bustly head as noisy as Rice Krispies. First sip shows a good balance of toasty malts and a mix of American hops. Something odd in the mouthfeel, though. Comes across with a metallic twang, or perhaps the brewing water is too hard. An interesting drinking beer, though, that may suffer in comparison to more extreme examples of this style. Perhaps if they upped the alcohol a bit more and let it age a bit. I can say it’s a notch above their more common Honey Brown Lager.
