Description
Brewery De Graal (the name is Dutch for 'the grail') is a young Belgian artisanal, yet automated, brewery located in Brakel, in the heart of the beautiful region that is commonly called 'the Flemish Ardennes'. The brewery of graduate brewer Wim Saeyens started in early 2002, and has known a consistent growth ever since. In the summer of 2016 the brewery moved to a new building.
Continuous investments in the latest brewing technologies have made it possible for brewery De Graal to keep up with the increasing demand for high quality beers. The export market to countries such as the US, Japan, Italy and Denmark is particularly on the rise. In addition to the main activity, the brewing of six different beers under its own De Graal brand name, the brewery is also specialized in producing custom-made specialty beers.

Bottled [BB 03/2008]. Hazy orange-yellow color, small white head. Fruity, melony aroma. Fruity is also flavor, backed with herbs - ginger is dominating. As a spiced beer - very balanced - alcohol is quite hidden.

Bottled [BB 12/2007]. Dark brown color, big creamy tan head. Cardboard and dried fruits in the nose - mainly prunes, plums. Dried fruits, chocolate and oak plus some alcohol in the flavor. This beer is more in the dry and alcoholic side than sweet and sugary. Carbonated mouthfeel and alcoholic aftertaste. Similar to some Belgian "bulk brunes".

(Bottle 33 cl) A hazy, brownish beer with an off-white head. A very fruity and somewhat sweetish nose. A bit heavy on the CO2. Medium body, some roasted malt, almost vinous with spicy accents. Subdued bitterness. Quite a refined brew. 200506

(Bottle 33 cl) Pours orangey golden with a slight haze and a thick, creamy head leaving a neat lacework. Full-bodied with distinct notes of ginger - as if this was a wrong labelling of their Gember beer. Somewhat medicinal touch. Dry, hoppy finish. Spicy nose. 190506

Small off-white, irregular head; hazy orange beer, well carbonated. Smokey, toasted nose, like single malt whisky, extremely so - identified it without knowing the ingredients yet. Tarry, Lapsan Souchong. Smoked, tarry, Lapsan Souchong again in the taste, phenolic. This is absolutely remarkable and original. Well-bodied, without being thick. One of the most original beer, drank in years. It’s maybe not one for tasting more than the one, but it’s an absolute must to try.

A hazy dark amber beer with a thin beige head. The aroma is sweet malty with notes of fruit and caramel. The flavor is also sweet malty and with notes of caramel as the main things I pick up. The mouthfeel is very smooth, and it has a nice powerful body.

33cl bottle. Reddish brown colour with thin beige head. Choc plum and herb aroma bit of raisin too. Bit of candy sugar in mouth with milk choc finish. Not too keen on the aroma, but the milk choc flavour in the mouth is lovely and so are the raisin flavours on the end. Not overly sweet. Good dubbel.

33cl bottle. Deep gold/orange colour with thin white head. Lovely intense hop malt aroma. Really nice agressive grapefruit and tangerine with plenty of juicy malt in the mouth. Pleasing hoppy finish with sweet citrus fruit tangerine and mandarin. Really good beer. Hits my taste hot spots
