Bottle split at Bruce’s pad, thanks to Nick Scott for bagging me this one, 24/06/14. Extremely dark mahogany brown with a moderate tan swirl and edgeing. Nose is light pine, dark berry fruit notes, light coffee, roasty tones. Taste comprises light roast, earthy cocoa rub, light pine, dark berry fruit. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, light hop rinse in the close. Ok CDA, lacks the punchy hop and citricana presence I crave in the style but I’ve had worse!

Now just called ’Cocky’, they have dropped the Hop part of the name (and not used many in the brew?), 500ml bottle: BBD End of Oct 14. Shared at the Shrewsbury August beer share afternoon on Sunday 10th. Biggest disappointment of the day. Lacked oomph and depth. Poured a clear golden colour with a thin white head. Perfumed hop aroma and taste, but overall it was poor from start to finish. It was up against some heavy hitters, so maybe it was subtle rather than weak in flavours and taste.

Tasting at Bruce’s pad. Thanks to CDA bloodhound Colin! Semi opaque dark brown beer, tiny tan head. Palate is light and dry. Moderate carbonation. Big earthy coffee, not rich but quite strong. Light bitterness in the dry finish. Tasty but could be hoppier!

Bottle shared in London - big thanks to Colin! Pours deep brown with a frothy, tan head. The nose has toasty moss, earth, a bit of roasted malts, cocoa. Light sweet flavor with some old leather, earth, bitter cocoa and earth. Light bodied with fine carbonation. More old leather on the finish, earth, baking cocoa, berry skins, citrus rind, charred meat. OK.

Cask (Malt Cross, Nottingham) - Dark copper in colour. Raisins, caramel and a hint of marzipan in the aroma. Nutty, fruity and slightly sweet taste with toffee, sultanas and some faint smoky notes.

(Cask at Market Porter, Borough, London, 23 Nov 2013) Dark brown colour, almost black, with creamy beige head. Malty, roasted nose with notes of chocolate, coffee and dark bread. Malty, roasted taste with coffee, chocolate, dark bread and a dry finish with a balanced, roasty bitterness. Well made and tasty porter. Nice one.
