Tap. Shakespeare’s, Sheffield. Clear, straw colour. No head. Yep, smells of wild garlic. Tastes like it, too. Now, I do like wild garlic. Grows like fuck across the road, in fact. But in a lunchtime beer, it’s pretty horrific to be honest.

Tap. Shakespeare’s, Sheffield. Label states “aged a year in the keg”. Pale gold. Light haze. No head. Looks like cider. Smells not unlike cider, too. Definitely notes of apple skin. Light bretty character. Some hedgerow fruit. Touch of funk. Smells great. Taste is well balanced sweet and lightly sour. Clean on the palate. Fine carbonation. Drinks like a cider / white wine hybrid. Good gear.

Hazy amber - gold beer, good pale cream colour head. Airy palate, mildly dry, decent fine carbonation. Smooth creamy malts. A pleasant light fruitiness, to describe it as citric would be to assign an edge it doesn't have. A smooth soft floral orange. Whisper of mellow orange peel. Light finish. Pleasant and drinkable and I always love to try these historic recipes. If this one is anything like accurate, I imagine this likely the most pleasant tasting the mid 19th century folks were sticking in their north and south's!!

On tap at Generation Craft Deal. Black beer lasting tan head plenty of coffee and chocolate on aroma and flavour. A little light in condition. Not a lot of smoke. Decent. But a little one dimensional.

Bottle from Hoptimism. Hazy pale amber colour with a white head. Aroma has a fruity tang and malty finish. Taste light sweet with a slight bitterness. Medium oily body.

Bottle. Beer Central, Sheffield. Deep, orangey copper colour. Thin, messy, fully lacing, lasting, just off white head. Nose has sweet wort. Spiced hop leaf. Stewed hop. Soggy, bready yeast. Some dried peel and leafy herb. Taste is malty sweet, with a fairly robust, stewed hop leaf bitterness. Lots of stickiness on the lips. Medium body. Feels oily and slick. Lively, foamy carbonation. Lingering bitterness to finish. Great to see (another) local brewer putting out a style like this, but it’s not one I’d seek out again in a hurry. That stewed hop bitterness makes this not too easy drinking.

Hazy gold beer, short lived pale cream colour head. Palate is light, mildly dry and has a good fine crispness. Thin malts but sweetish. Lime and chilli vibe, burns a little. Light floralness. Like sherbets. Crispy finish with an added chilli bite. Not very Saison, but that suits me fine.

Bottle. Beer Central, Sheffield. Reddy copper colour. Light haze. No head. Nose has cherry stone and cherry skin. Soft brett. Light oak. Taste is tart, dry, and cherry stone sweet. Light to medium body. Soft acidity. Very drying. Low carbonation. Decent bittersweet finish with brett and cherry stone. Nice one.

Cherry version of the previous one. A lot sharper and with more sourness than the peach. Fruity for sure, but the cherry is not easily distinguished as such. Sweet, very vinous, sour and woody. Brett in the harsh sense, less soft.
