Alex pour. There's a soft yeastiness and a hint of brett. So this has a touch of woodiness and again with some brett. Decent stuff, with a bit of woody accent and depth.

750ml at Phill's place. Appearance: cloudy golden with a white head. Aroma: nice Brett, fruity and some woody character. Taste: light Brett, fruity, good body. Overall: it's pleasant, but quite simple and lacking complexity.

750mL bottle, pours a hazy orange with a small white head. Aroma is wonderfully funky, with rustic saison yeast, moderate funk, a little wood, and a touch of stone fruits. Flavour follows accordingly, with lots of oranges, stone fruits, moderate funk, and rustic saison yeast. There's a nice gentle wood / oak character that melds with the brett. Excellent.

Bottle, I think from Legacy. Beige sort of colour, not bright. The bottle gushed up a bit but it's also got a thin head. On the nose, bourbon and brett. The base beer isn't so exciting, it's the bugs and barrels I'm here for, and that's about what I'm getting, really. Moderate tartness, actually the finish is quite balanced. Good.

Took me about seven years to try this one - well, six because I didn't live here when they first made it. Pale. Sweet. Sticky. Low esters but too much booze and plastic. Another brewery that thinks tripel is supposed to be sticky sweet. But this brewer has definitely had Westmalle, so I'm even more confused. And butter in the finish...how is that possible?

Tasting at Matt's, bottle
Cloudy dark blond colour. Smell of glue, ripe stone fruit (rotting?), acetone. There's some residual sweetness, stone fruit juice, and a lot of acetonee / nail polish.
Bordering unpleasant.

Can, from Blackfish Liquor. Hazy dull amber, and not much head. The aroma shows some old school chewiness - looks like some low lov crystal made its way into this beer when the smell and appearance are put together. On the palate, yeah, same. Chewy pale crystal malt, moderate bitterness and a bit of piney, vaguely citrusy hop notes. But this isn't joyous unbridled hop, rather it's more balanced by a lot of malt, and then of course there's the diacetyl that creeps into the finish. All told, not really getting it done for me.

Can from Blackfish Liquor. The aroma is big passionfruit. On the palate, it's more balanced. Lots of passionfruit. A touch of salt - it's referenced in the description but not the ingredients. Some wheaty character as well, and I always appreciate when a brewer takes the care to draw that out of their gose. (Wheat is also in the description but not listed as an ingredient, though it's pretty obvious on the palate). Hey, I think this one's good. It's refreshing. The base beer is well-made and evident, and then the flavour fits well with the base, and the total package makes a lot of sense. When you take a simple idea like this, and you do it very well, sometimes that's all it takes.

Can, from Blackfish Liquor. Opaque. Thick head. The nose has some orange but also some acetone-type phenols. The acetone carries through on the palate, and is just distracting. There's a good malt base, a delicate orange note, and good body, but yeah, can't have such a flaw in such obvious evidence. Don't need a very phenolic yeast for this - the hops and additives should do most of the heavy lifting on the flavour profile.

750mL bottle, pours a cloudy golden orange with a large beige head. Aroma brings out lots of funk, rustic saison yeast, and lots of wood. Flavour reveals a nice wild yeast character, a bit of saison yeast, gentle tart citrus, stone fruits, and oak barrels. The wood from the barrels married well with the wild yeast; there's a fair bit of stone fruits on the finish. Complex and well-made. One of Townsite's best.
