16 ounce can into snifter, canned on 5/15/2016. Pours slightly hazy deep ruby red/brownish color with a 1-2 finger dense and rocky cream colored head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Nice dense soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big caramel, toffee, brown sugar, raisin, plum, fig, date, grapefruit, tangerine, orange peel, bourbon, toasted oak, and brown bread; with lighter notes of roasted nuts, coconut, vanilla, cocoa, molasses, herbal, pepper, pine, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/bready/light roasted malt, fruity yeast, citrus hops, and light-moderate bourbon barrel notes; with great strength. Taste of big caramel, toffee, brown sugar, raisin, plum, fig, date, grapefruit, tangerine, orange peel, bourbon, toasted oak, and brown bread; with lighter notes of roasted nuts, coconut, vanilla, cocoa, molasses, herbal, pepper, pine, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Light-moderate pine/herbal/spicy hop bitterness and bourbon/oak spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of caramel, toffee, brown sugar, dark fruit, grapefruit, tangerine, orange peel, bourbon, toasted oak, brown bread, light cocoa/nuttiness, herbal, pepper, pine, and yeast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready/light roasted malt, fruity yeast, citrus hops, and light-moderate bourbon barrel flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance, and zero cloying/astringent flavors after the finish. Lightly increasing dryness from bitter/spiciness. Medium carbonation and fairly full body; with a smooth, creamy/bready, fairly sticky/tannic, and slightly chalky balanced mouthfeel that is great. Light-moderate increasing warmth of 11.2%, with no barrel booziness. Overall this is an excellent BBA American Barelywine! All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready/light roasted malt, fruity yeast, citrus hops, and light-moderate bourbon barrel flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to sip on for the big ABV. Not a ton of barrel character, but it’s adequate. Really awesome balance between the citrusy hops, fruity English yeast, and bready/toasted Munich malt sweetness. Adequate dryness, without feeling aggressively bitter. A very enjoyable offering, and spot on style example.

Can shared at Chriso’s and Ruth pre GBBF shindig, August 5, 2017. Pours orange, relatively flat. Murky sourish nose, again very unique. Grape yeast nuances. Taste is creamy some interesting honey beewax thing going on. Light and flavorful. Nice creamy autumn fruits, slight spices, bitter apple peels. Liking this, interesting difference in aging.
