Description
The Abita Brewing Company is nestled in the piney woods 30 miles north of New Orleans. In its first year, the brewery produced 1,500 barrels of beer. We had no idea what we started. Customers loved our beer! By 1994, we outgrew the original site (now our 100-seat brew pub) and moved up the road to a larger facility to keep up with demand.

We brew more than 125,000 barrels of beer and 13,500 barrels of soda of in our state-of-the-art brewing facility. Our lagers and ales are brewed in small batches, hand-crafted by a team of dedicated workers with only the highest ideals of quality. This pride, along with our brewing process, is what creates our great brews.

We are privately owned and operated by local shareholders, many who have been with us since day one.

2004 bottle. Pours a fairly light brown color, clear with a small creamy head. Aroma has a hint of sticky caramel candy-like note. Flavor is lightly sticky toffee/caramel and chocolate. Not terribly sweet, with some very lightly bitter hops presence. Overall, it’s well-flavored, but unremarkable.

One of the better brews from Abita. +++Sampled from a 12 oz bottle the beer poured a dark black color with a large creamy brown head that left good lacing. The aroma was toasty and roasty malts with a hint of chocolate. The flavor was dryish and toasty with notes of wood, cocoa and coffee. The finish was medium length roasty and woody. Moderately full bodied and fairly smooth. Solid.

VERY light in color, with a large head. Smells grainy and slightly sweet- but not much wheat. Slightly sweet flavor, with not too much else going on. Not much of a wheat beer... and not much carbonation either- this beer is near flat.

This deep red beer is topped by a thin light tan head. The nose is very chocolatey and somewhat earthy/yeasty (reminiscent of an English porter). In fact, the body is along the lines of an English porter, too- this has a nice chocolatey matrix, with yeast and tobacco notes as well. Has a somewhat acidic, tangy aftertaste. I agree with previous reviewers that this beer is very thin-bodied and needs a bit more "weight." However, I enjoy the flavor. This may be the bastard stepson of Fuller’s London Porter. I hear jeers and outrage- I’m not claiming this beer rivals Fuller’s, but it does have the same flavor characteristics.

Golden orange... slighty hazy. Small head. Plain, ordinary beer aroma. A bit hoppy, but also a bit boring. Aberage beer at best.

Deep brown with an awesome head. Smells of slight coffee and caramels... nice, but kinda ordinary. Taste is thin and... well.. milklike. Aftertaste/feeling is more like having just had a White Russian than a beer. Where I enjoy a White Russian from time to time, I don’t care for my beers leaving that aftertaste.

Light hazy yellow, small head. Nothing special in appearance. Smells like any cheap macro- beer tent smelling. Grassy taste, and kinda plain... nothing special whatsoever about this beer. May as well drink whatever beer the media decides to force down our throats, because this is no better.

Appearance is cloudy golden, with a very nice head. Aroma is NICE- thick raspberries. Tastes very wheaty- with only a hint of fruit... nothing all that special. The smell is the best part- and that’s quite nice.

Amber, with a small head. Very average looking. Smells coppery and bready. Tastes of copper... with not much else going on. Bland, boring, run-of-the-mill anyman’s beer here.

Clear amber colour with a frothy white head. Aroma of canned corn, slight hops and some malt. Light to Medium-bodied; Sweet caramely flavour with malty hints. Aftertaste clean with some malt bitterness. Overall, not horrible, but not reccomended! Thanks to Phil (haddon90) for splitting this bottle with me! I got this twelve ounce bottle from Beers of the World in Rochester, New York and sampled it on 12-March-2004.
