Description
Renaissance brewing was established in 2005 when experienced brewers Andy Deuchars and Brian Thiel purchased the lease on the historic Grove Mill in Blenheim. Andy and Brian, both natives of Southern California, had one goal in mind - to produce stunning beers in a region more renowned for the excellence of its wines. We are committed to using local ingredients and are one of the pioneers of craft brewing in New Zealand.

Bottle thanks to Manny G. It pours near black with a medium light tan head. The nose is soft, bitter-sweet, juicy, Dandelion & Burdock, liquorice, sweet roast, Dundee cake, cherry cola and rocky road. The taste is smooth, bitter, toast, roasted malt, coffee, pepper, orange rind, liquorice and cracked peppercorn. medium body and average carbonation. not too shabby.

Bottle shared at a CBC Clerkenwell tasting - London. Many thanks to Paddy. Pours rich brown with a frothy tan head. The nose holds toasty, doughy bread, faint cocoa. Medium sweet flavor with notes of chocolate, light oily pine, earth. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Moderately oily and resinous to close, with bittersweet chocolate, burnt pine. Not bad at all.

Bottle split at CBC Clerko, big thanks to Manny G, 10/09/15. Extremely dark mahogany brown with a decent tan covering. Nose is pine resin, tea leaves, tropical fruit notes, light cocoa rub, red berry snap, herbal qualities. Taste comprises charr, toffee, light chocolate biscuit, pine, red berry pangs. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a fresh hop vibe. Decent enough XDA.

Very hazy deep amber beer, thin cream colour head. Nose of toffee and dried fruits. Palate is light and semi dry, mild fine carbonation. Little tangy toffee - caramel. A mild touch of paper - oxidisation. Little dried fruits. Light finish. A shade of JW Lees Harvest Ale here but it’s not as good as that beer.

Bottle. Dark brown with an inch of light tan head. Aroma of lime leaf, passionfruit, mocha, grass, white grapes. Mango (or boot polish)? Lightish bodied, moderate carbonation. Lots of tropical hops and grapes with some mocha and licorice behind, also a chalkiness that’s odd but not unpleasant. Didn’t really pick up any rye, although it’s a little spicy at the end. I like it and there’s something weird going on that I don’t get.
