Description

Draught at De Heeren van Liedekercke. Clear deep golden liquid with a medium off-white head. Aroma of earthy hops, flowers, bread, dried fruit and toast. Taste is light sweet and light bitter with notes of bread and flowers. Light to medium bodied with medium carbonation. Nice.

750mL bottle, pours a cloudy orange with a medium white head. Aroma brings out barnyard funk, Belgian yeast, and hay. Flavour is very dry and funky, with loads of zest, hay, barnyard notes, and Belgian yeast. Highly drinkable, with a very dry palate with no residual sugars. Excellent.

Thanks. Sampled @ ZBF 2014. Darker orange, creamy white. Slightly funky and tart nose, touch brett, thick candy, caramel malts and rock candy. Taste is thick, too sweet, muddled orange peel, candy sugar, sweet malts, touch malts, touch brett. Malty and muddled body. This is an Orval clone that at least shares some similarities with the real deal, it is miles and miles below the real deal. One doesn’t simply brew Orval.

26/IV/14 - 33cl bottle @ ZBF 2014 (Leuven) - BB: n/a (2014-420) Thanks to the Belgian Ratebeer crew for sharing today's beers!

Note: they're still searching a name for this new beer, that wasn't bottled. They told me "let's just call it our Orval clone for now". Well, that's literally what we entered. :-) Will probably change in the near future, when the bottles get labelled.
Clear red orange beer, creamy yellowish head, adhesive, leaving a nice lacing in the glass. Aroma: bit dirty and weird, I suppose this is the brett yeast they probably used, orange peel, yeast, fruity. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: bit sourish start, bitter, grapefruit, some chocolate, citrus touch. Aftertaste: little bitter, woody notes, pretty darn bitter if you ask me, little sour, wild brett notes, dry ending. Decent beer, maybe one of the better Orval clones I've had, even though it's not even near the original one.

33 cl. bottle @ home. Procured from Willems. BBF 11/2015. Hazy orange, creamy touch off-white head. Nose is thick yoghurt yeast, thick bread, touch sweetness & overall just lots of yeast. Taste it thick bitter yeast, faint grass, yoghurt yeast, faint bitter herbs, sweet white bread, touch sugar, overall just lots of yeast, same for the body. Another BE brew that just feels like a glass of yeast and not the fanciest one at that even.
