Description
For years we brewed beers in our basement when we read an article in October 2010 about the Brouwland beer competition. We decided to risk our chances and sent our version of a Trappist beer, a dark beer, full malt, of 10%.In March 2011 we were informed that we were selected for the final. Beginning in April 2011 was ultimately the final. The seven finalist beers were tasted by beer connoisseurs, Zythologists Rijckers Anne and Yannick De Cocteau and some Belgian brew masters like Paul Arnott (Dubuisson), and Jean-Marie De Rock (Orval). The first beers were tasted and judged one for one, much was noted. Mutually there was not much talk together ,until they started our beer (the final seven beers were tasted in order of alcohol). All jurors began to talk to each other and two of them even gave us a thumbs up. Then, we knew it was good. After fifteen minutes of deliberations they announced the winner … Vliegend Paard Brouwers from Oedelem with their Préaris Quadrupel.

04.11.2014, 0,33l bottle @ home:
Big creamy longlasting head. Aroma is slightly dry grassy, hay, leafs, yeast, flowers, hops, weeds, bark, grass, citrus peel, light malts, hints of dried fruits. Taste is kind of dry and harsh floral, weeds, yeast, hay, old leafs, alcohol, paper, light malts, minerals, harsh hops, bark. Medium to longlasting bitterness, dry and harsh mouthfeel. Not my cup of tea.

33 cl. bottle @ home, bought @ Hogerdijk, Culemborg. Clear dark amber with a huge frothy off-white head. Aroma is malty and sweet, with some citrus. Taste is somewhat thin, finish likewise. There’s nothing to dislike here but isn’t very memorable either.

Bottle from Capitol Beer in Sacramento, CA. Pours very dark orange/red with a foamy beige head. Aroma of grapey dark fruit. Followed by coffee. Med + body. Flavor is grapey, dark malt, and some coffee. Interesting, but perhaps the coffee is a bit distracting. Really nice in a rather different quadway. :)

Tynn kropp for såpass høy vinkelhastighet. Savner en balanserende sødme.

Hazy orange amber colour, huge frothy white head, recedes slowly to a thick and stable layer, good lacing. Strong fruity nose, citrus, peach, starfruit, candy sugar, pine, citrus. Taste at first light sweet, fruity, soon followed by medium hoppy bitterness. Medium body, oily texture, average carbonation, lingering dry bitter finish, citrus and herbal hops. Very nice and well-balanced IPA.
