Almost clear pale golden colour, small creamy white head, recedes slowly with good lacing. Aroma wheat, lemon/lime, grapefruit, yeast, some coriander, floral hops. Taste citrusy fruity sweet and sour, light hoppy bitterness, bit peppery. Medium body, oily to sticky texture, soft carbonation, finish fresh and fruity as in the taste but with more bitterness, pepper and coriander notes. Not a middle of the road witbier, special because of the hoppy character, very good.

Clear dark blond beer, creamy irregular white head, little stable, bit adhesive. Aroma: very malty, grains, hay, cow fodder, bit of banana. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: very malty, grains, hay, pretty bitter, some citrus. Aftertaste: malty, bit of caramel, slightly sweet, dry hoppy finish, grassy, very bitter, almost medicinal, herbal character. Much like a German pilsner.

33cl bottle from ABCBeers, shared with brewing buddies. Thick creamy off white head. Clear deep burgundy pour. Coffee in the aftertaste. Well hidden alcohol. Another lovely beer from this brewery.

330ml bottle. Murky, dark brown colour with average, frothy, half-way lasting, moderately lacing, off-white to beige head. Vinous, fruity aroma, notes of dark fruit, raisin, black cherries, blue grapes, a touch of chocolate and pumpernickel, hints of fruit parings. Taste is moderately sweet malty, bready, dark flan case, a touch of chocolate and pumpernickel, notes of dark fruit, dark berries, raisin; lasting dry finish with hints of fruit parings, aditionally some warming alcohol. Rich and complex, still very (dangerously) drinkable.

Bottle from the Elm Tree, Cambridge. Plum-chocolate brown, hazy with a thin but respectable khaki head. Plums, raisins, currants & figs in the aroma. Milk chocolate. Freshly rolled cigars. A bit of pure alcohol astringency. Lovely but doesn’t quite hang together. Sweet fruitcake and caramel is quickly interrupted by a shocking bitterness. At first it jars but I grow to appreciate the balance over the course of the bottle. Notes of treacle tart and hazelnut abound. Full and luscious body, with exhilarating carbonation. Finish and aftertaste are a bit too bitter compared to what has come before. Very good, but would struggle to compete with the best quads.

0,33L bottle. Pours brown with light tan head. Aroma is dark fruits, caramel, alcohol. Flavor is sweet, malt, dark fruits, plums, caramel. Finish is long hoppy bitter. Overall: very nice brew.

Vliegende Paard’s first creation, made at the ’Proef’brouwerij. Light beige, moussy, quickly dissipating head, colour a dark burgundy, misty; aroma of fondant chocolate, dates, bayleaf, caramelized chicory, coffee powder, whisky, liquorice, sherry. Deep candied fruity and malty taste, full, rich and smooth, bit resinous palate, bitterish finish with aromatic hops, roasted malts and warming alcohol which was just a little bit too strong for me. I’d call this an abt rather than a quadrupel too. Still, great beer, especially for a first one.

’Dry coffeed’ version of their quadrupel, i.e. lagered on Costarican coffee beans. Creamy, dense, stable, beige head, colour dark bronze. The aroma actually reminded me of Irish coffee and cappuccino at first, after which dried fruits, caramel, liquorice, toffee and dates came forward. Dark fruity taste, full, rich maltiness, in the end very much dominated by the coffee, which unsurprisingly tastes as real ground coffee beans, bitterish, aromatic with warming alcohol, velvety mouthfeel further adding to the ’cold Irish coffee’ experience. Nice one from this beer company - again.

Vliegende Paard’s third, made with no less than 6 hop varieties. Sticky, yellowish white, stable head, orange blond colour, hazy. Complex hoppy nose, citrussy, grassy, peppery, orange peel, grapefruit, peach, bitter honey, tonic water, raspberry. Fresh onset of lemon zeste and unripe peach, subtle caramel malts, vivid and smooth, strong and complex hop bitterness in the finish, very aromatic, very long, citrussy, herbal and dry and extremely thirst-quenching. Very good IPA.
