Description

0,33 l bottle, bought at Grebhan´s, Bremen. Pours out in a darkest red brown. Creamy beige two fingers head. Heavy dark fruity and wood on the nose. Starts more smooth, malt, barrelwood, caramell, light sweetness, dry herb fruits. Don´t forget the alcohol! Little bit too short middle part. Could be more complex in the ending.

37.5 cl bottle brought to the October 2014 Shrewsbury Bottle Swap and shared between four of us: cheers Mat. Misty orange body with a fairly good off-white head. Sweet and fruity from the start with an aroma of mixed fruits and caramel like notes. I thought it had the nose and taste of a good Barley Wine at first. Continued the sweet and fruity feel into the mouth with a heavy alcohol kick mid sip, nice depth of flavours in it’s smooth and almost slick body: most enjoyable.

Clear but very dark brown colour with a ruby hue against the light, small foamy tan head, dissipates quickly but good lacing. Aroma roasted malts, cocoa, coffee, dark fruits, licorice. Taste soft sweetbitter, dark chocolate, coffee, hint of laurel. Medium to full body, creamy texture, soft carbonation. Finish smooth bittersweet, lingering roasty and chocolate aftertaste, alcohol well hidden, good.

Classically made Eisbock produced by the ’Proef’brouwerij for SNAB. Yellowish beige, creamy head, bronze colour, hazy. Aroma of chocolate, coffee, dates, caramel, ginger, black pepper, bayleaf; candied fruits in the mouth, some pear, sweetish and spicy, drying from the middle onwards with a Scotch-like roasted bitterness in the end as well as a medium strong, floral hop bitterness. Very agreeable winter warmer.

Bottle shared at Chriso’s post GBBF minidig, 16/08/14. Clear golden with a moderate off white head. Nose is bready, dark fruit, light spice. Taste comprises light yeast esters, brown bread, dark fruit notes, toffee. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, fruity linger in a semi drying close with a light hop presence. Ok but like so many ’Belgian Ales’ nothing to make me want to return for more though!

Bottle at home in London - got it online. Pours hazy amber-orange with a creamy, off-white head. The nose has lots of bready malts, caramel, berries, ripe orange. Medium sweet flavor, a little boozy, with jammy citrus, strawberry, pine oils, wood, leaves. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Finishes sweet with mellow alcohol warmth, more pine, ripe orange, grainy bread. So so.
