Draught at Rogue, San Francisco. Clear brown, minimal head. Aroma of hay and orange. Sweet with clean cookie malt character under a thin curtain of resiny orangey hops. Finishes with medium bitterness. A straightforward, quite hoppy ale with simple malt character.

Hazy orangey-amber colour. Leafy, earthy, slightly lemony hop nose with hints of caramel. Bitter, earthy, slighlty leafy nose. Chewy caramel notes.

Bomber pours clear copper with tan head and decent lacing initially. The aroma brings up big dark fruity esters of plums, prunes, raisins, pepper and hard candy cherries. There’s also an alcohol note. The taste starts with a mixture of sweet malts, pale malts and a burst of dark fruitiness. Then it becomes increasingly fruity with prunes, sweet cherries, raisins, then a slight medicinal cherry cough syrup note along with mild pepper. It ends with lingering dark fruit notes, a hint of caramel malt sweetness and a bit of alcohol. Considering the age and the ABV the alcohol isn’t out of line. This can certainly use a couple of years on the shelf though.

Golden-amber colour. Bright, with a rich head. Some leafy hop nose. Some iodine as well. There’s a fair bit of bitterness, but it carries some asringency, like bitter melon. Woody finish typical of organic hops.

Bomber from Bottle Barn! Nose of very sweet flowery hops with a vanilla note; hazy copper with a medium, glass-lacing beige head; flavor of vanilla, spices, sweetness, and hop bitterness. Finish is light bitterness. 6/3/7/3/13/3.2 Draft at the Bistro’s 8th DIPA Fest; Nose of floral hops and caramel; murky copper with a small straw head; flavor well balanced with light caramel and hop bitterness

Bomber. Nicely balanced aroma of floral hop and caramel malt. Red tinged amber color with a beige head that looks decent. Thin to medium body with fizzy/creamy carbonation. The flavor starts roasted brown malty, and the floral hop is not quite enough to wholly balance it. The hop is a bit sharp though, and it builds in the mouth, so by the finish it is holding it’s own. After awhile there does seem to be a grapefruit note. Pretty good ale. I don’t think they skimped on ingredients.

Strong aroma of roasted caramel, almost some chocolate. Not much hop, if any. Hazy amber color with no worthwhile head (bubbles). Thin to medium body with very mild carbonation. Starts with dark fruit and roasted caramel. Something reminiscent of dates. Pretty smooth. With some passage of time mild bitterness begins to show up and build up. It’s a malty thing, and the finish seems weak in hop. Still, it’s tasty, and something rare.

Bottle courtesy of CBA: Poured a light clear black color porter with a small foamy head with a small foamy head with some good retention and some lacing. Aroma of light roasted malt with some subtle bitter notes. Taste is also dominated by some sweet malt with some lactose-like sweetness with a weak bitter ending. Body is too thin for the style with some average carbonation.

Bomber from the Nugget in Vacaville (thanks to grant for mentioning that). Aroma of floral hop and light roasted malt. Spot on amber color with a white head that hangs around, not quite lacing. Medium body with roasted malt and balancing hop which seems to be floral/citrus. The finish is just not quite dry, and the bitter just balances. Finishes just a bit thin, but it drinks very well. Note: Golden West Brewing is a holding company that holds Butte Creek Brewing. Neither seem to have been successful at making money, and Golden West is taking a shot at making even better beers that will attract buyers willing to pay the costs of production. Mateveza was one of those endeavors. This may be another.

Bottle from Ray’s Liquor in Chico. Aroma is light banana, light spice, light noble hop, light pale malt. Slightly hazy light gold color with a white head that didn’t wholly arrive. Thinnish in body with fizzy carbonation. Flavor is banana, wheat, followed by lemon notes that just come out of nowhere. The finish is dry, slightly citric, with some wheatishness. Crisp and refreshing.
