Brouwerij Serafijn (prev. Microbrouwerij Achilles)

Client Brewer in Heist-op-den-Berg, Antwerp, Belgium 🇧🇪
Associated Venue: Huisbrouwerij Achilles - Out of business

Established in 1999

Description
The microbrewery is founded by Achilles Van de Moer on the passion for special beers. After 7 years of trials with different beers, the decision to start a microbrewery in Itegem was made in 1999. The brand name of beers is “Serafijn”. All beers are high fermentation brews, with second fermentation in the bottle. Most of the beers are contract brewed, but some of them are also brewed at their own location.

In 2015 Achilles became part of Caupona bvba (of the Prik & Tik stores in Heist-op-den-Berg and Herselt). The brewery is now called ''Brouwerij Serafijn.'' That is the new company in Heist that houses the Serafijn beers. The former microbrewery in Itegem has been dismantled.

The beer is now brewed at the Pirlot brewery in Zandhoven.

I wasn’t too impressed with this beer. No outstanding hoppiness or maltiness. A bit skunky and yeasty and not a very clean palate. Re-rate: citric, hoppy and soapy aroma. Cologne flavor with hops and citrus. Smells more like shaving water as a beer. Thinnish and sweetish.

Orange color, cloudy, chunks of yeast. Pineapple aroma. Yeastbitter flavor with a touch of pineapple. Yeasty aftertaste with an upcoming nasty cabbage-like bitterness.
