Description

Bottle from LDW, Eke. Dark brown/black colour, beige foam disappears quickly. Nose of roasted malts, espresso, caramel. Taste is medium sweet, light roasty, espresso notes. Balance is ok, nice drinkablity. Not a bad one from Oosteke Brouwers.

Towering, very fine & dense light cream-coloured head, stable, over very carbonated copper-amber beer, hazy. Rather sweetish nose, lots of caramelhints, (toasted) cookies, but also spicy yeast features. Very toasted flavour, bitterish cookies; some spices that tend to be sweet. Impressions of dandelion, witloof , bay leaf. Warming up, the caramel takes over again, and at the very end, near clear liquorice. Slight wryness, quite slick. Near overcarbonated, at least medium bodied; Fading main flavour, no new aftertaste. Just as the Saison, quite decent amber; As long as they can keep off the infernal weed stash, the Oosteke beers are quite OK. 6/4/7/3/14

Bottle from Bierboom, Bruges. Thanks to Rudy for recommending. Shared with Anke.
Pours hazy dark brown with a lasting, foamy, tan head; little lacing. Subtle aroma of walnut, (roasted) peanuts, roasted malt, coffee, yeast, caramel, herbs & spices, (brown) bread. Light herbal bitter onset, turning light to medium caramel-like sweet with hints of coffee, nuts & bread. Spicy, herbal, bit dry & bitter finish, very slightly metallic. Medium body, creamy texture, soft carbonation. A nice Belgian brown.

Huge, dense, white and very stable head over hazy, lively carbonated ochre-ish golden beer. Coriander. And the rest is hist... OK, fake citrus, bit pale malts. Coriander. Finish is a bit peppery. Citrus (as in f...), bit toasted. Slick, even a bit viscous despite good carbonation. Why, O why? 5/4/5/3/11

Dark amber beer, slightly hazy, under a thick-set, irregular, cream-coloured head, stable. Slight caramel; banana, herbs, leaves, faintly spicy. Quite bitter; bitterish dry leaves, and caramel minus the sweetness. Bitterness keeps lingering. Hoppy, but more leafy-vegetable bitterness. Not very fruity in my book; if anything as from dried, non-sweet fruit if that can make any sense. Quite slick, medium bodied, medium to good carbonation. Like this! Pleasant surprise. 6/4/7/3/15

Pours dark clear amber/copper. Small white head. Smell is weak, bit spiced, no real bourbon or wood shows, and not the typical saison, phenolic spice. Smells fresh, and a tad herbal trough it's spicyness. Taste is sharp, boozy, really unblending bourbon on top. kinda astrigent. Tastes clash very , very hard here. Grainy. not good at all. Goes trough a medicinal thing, by mixing 2 colliding tastes, rather than medicinal from hops .

Pours dark, caramelly, clear brown, with a head that dies off instantly, but has been white, in it's short-lived life. Smell is coffee, rather green coffee, actually. almost peppery trough it's aroma. No real hoppy notes or fermentation profile to be found . Taste is sharp, bit bitter, phenolic, or is it only due to the coffee I get such a peppery, spicy backnote? Coffee is recognizable, too . It ain't too intense, it ain't bad too, but the basebeer underneath is so weak, that the remote intensity of the coffee, already makes the base loose all it's characteristics. Decent as a total whole, but the basebeer should be far more balanced and intense, to make this one truly work. some Diacethyl shows as it warms up.

At Ghent Beer Society's Beer Quiz; shared with Anke & Pieter!
Hazy orange/brown with a small, off-white head. Aroma of caramel, berries, cherries, wood, vanilla and liquor. It tastes medium fruity sweet and light hoppy bitter; dry, 'woody' finish. Medium body, creamy texture, soft to fizzy carbonation. Balanced & tasty.
