Description

Bourbon nose. Clear brilliant deep amber colour, tall beige frothy head, dissipates slowly, thin layer remains, light lacing. Rich aroma, toasted malts, caramel, bourbon, wood, vanilla, light honey, touch of wood; retronasal wood. Taste medium sweet and bitter, malty, caramel, followed by rather sharp spicy notes, wood, bourbon, alcohol notes. Sweetbitter aftertaste, dry wood, medium body, kinda thin oily texture, soft carbonation. Mixed feelings, colour and aroma splendid, pity that taste and especially the aftertaste don't match that accordingly.

Fles gekocht in België, thuis geprobeerd met LiekevdV. Het is een donker geel helder bier met een volle witte schuimkraag. De geur is hoppig en fruitig. De smaak is zacht, hoppig en heeft een fruitige nasmaak.

01/10/2017 @home - 75cl bottle from a trade with tderoeck. Hazy brown with small creamy egg white head. Nose is sweet malts, fruits, caramel, some wood. Creamy texture. Taste is sweet malts, caramel, some milk chocolate, I suppose some Banyuls too because I recognized some features of the Cuvée de Mortagne Banyuls From Alvinne. This one is nice too but not that great like the Mortagne.

Quadrum aged on Banyuls barrels, from a 75 cl bottle shared by tderoeck. Moussy, egg-white, loosely structured and gradually opening, but sufficiently edge-retaining head, hazy bronze brown robe with warm copper hue. Aroma of caramel, sweet dessert wine which I suppose represents the Banyuls, stewed plums, vanilla-like oak, brown sugar, cloves, baker's yeast, brownies, straw, pear, raspberry. Sweet onset, banana and ripe peach, fig- and plum-like soft sourish notes, softish carbo, smooth mouthfeel, bit fluffy, caramelly and bready malt body; finish adds a yeasty and phenolic touch alongside warming alcohol (more brandy-like than Banyuls-like actually), some wet wood undertones and a herbal hop touch, but the breadiness lingers the longest. Classic Belgian strong brown with a twist, very classically quad-like in its make-up, warming, bready and sweet. Works fine for me.

7/IX/17 - 75cl bottle from Hopduvel (Gent), shared @ home with Amy - BB: VIII/2018 (2017-1478)

Clear deep orange to red amber beer, big solid creamy yellow to orange head, pretty stable, adhesive, leaving a nice lacing in the glass. Aroma: sweetish, some banana, caramel, pretty yeasty, some dried fruits. MF: soft carbon, medium to full body. Taste: very malty, honey, bit sugary, lots of dried fruits, banana, alcohol, slightly oxidized. Aftertaste: some marzipan, more oxidation, caramel, malty, alcohol, ripe banana. Probably the best OostEke beer until now! Hope they do more of this stuff...

Old-fashioned Belgian ’streekbier’ with moussy, snow white, lacing head and hazy golden blonde robe with olive greenish hue. Aroma of unripe banana, spring onion, apple sauce, bread crumbs, pear and some unpleasant DMS (cooked green cabbage). Estery onset, banana, tad bubblegummy even, pear and apple notes, softish carbonation, bit fluffy mouthfeel; lightly bready and cereally middle, banana sweetishness lingering, bit earthy, grassy, softly bittering hops but not nearly enough to my personal taste. Another bland, boring (even though explicitly not intended as such) and completely redundant Belgian ’terrasjesblondje’.

Thank you for sharing RB Crew! Sampled 330 ml. bottle @ GBF 2017. Orange golden, creamy white head. Dull soap, chemical, sugar, overly sweet glue. Taste is soap, sugar, chemical rubbish, glue, sweet. Body is chemical, sugar, glue. Not a fan.

Thank you for sharing RB Crew! Sampled 750 ml. bottle @ GBF 2017. Orange amber, tanned head. This one is a really weird beer, nose is massively sweet oak, vanilla, sweet all sugar wine & candy oak mixing with a base of soap & spoiled fruit. Taste is same, spoiled fruit, soap mixed with bafflingly sweet boozy vanilla candy oak. Body is soap with the sweetness. Barrel total clashes & never blend with a poor base beer. Nope.
