Description

20/V/17 - 75cl bottle @ Marie's place - BB: n/a, bottled: 4/VIII/16 (2017-602) Thanks to JefVerstraete for the bottle!

Clear orange beer, lots of small chunks under a fizzy very off-white head, lots of chunks under a big fizzy aery off-white head, unstable, falls down quickly, bit adhesive. Aroma: yeast, CO2, hint of vanilla, some orange peel, bit sugary, fruity. MF: lively carbon, medium body. Taste: pretty bitter, wood touch, sweet, bit yeasty, fruity, vanilla notes. Aftertaste: orange peel, bitter, bit of tannins, bit sweet, pretty decent one, but the barrel doesn't come through very convincing. Second fill?

19th May 2017: mini-tasting at home with myself. Third beer of the session and the second of three beers from this brewery. 33cl bottle, slightly out of date (7% ABV version): bugger. Poured slowly into a Chimay chalice, no sediment left the bottle (I think) but the body was still a cloudy and dull brown/deep orange colour, the head soon just a wisp and collar. Fruity nature to the nose and taste, spicey oranges coming through loud and clear in both the aroma and flavour. A nice semi-sweet Triple with a decent hop attack towards the end of each gulp.

19th May 2017: mini-tasting at home with myself. Second beer of the session and the first of three beers from this brewery. 33cl bottle, slightly out of date: bugger. Poured slowly into a Chimay chalice, sediment and all went into the glass: colour is a dirty reddy brown and we have a few floaters within, on top a full uneven blanket of off-white foam and a stain where the sediment lept in. This is a nice beer, aroma has loads of different esters attacking the nose: yeatsy, herbie, spicey and fruity traces challange your senses to pick out the various pieces. The taste is on the semi-sweet side along with a mixture of flavours that follow the aroma’s with plenty of things to find. Having looked at a few ratings prior to opening this, it would seem the older the beer is since bottling the better and more mellow the beer becomes: so if you have one keep it for as long as you dare!

Dumpy 33cl bottle (BBD 15th Apr 18) poured into a Duvel glass at home on 1st Jan 16. My golden pour was joined by the sediment, so I ended up with a mirky looking dull orange bodied beer with a full, deep white head. Nose had some veg and yeast esters, the taste more malty and sweeter than the aroma indicated: the finish however was quite bitter and hoppy.
