Description
The Obergärige Hausbrauerei Uerige (top-fermented craft brewery) is not a museum, but an exceedingly modern food business where a craft rich in centuries of tradition is carried out. It goes without saying that the Reinheitsgebot, or Purity Law dating from 1516, is still adhered to, because its results are good and lasting, relying, as it does, on nature as one of its main factors. Which is exactly what we do, too: our yummy droplet is made of nothing but water, barley, wheat malt, and our Uerige yeast.

Bottle, 2021 vintage, drunk 12/10/22. Dark mahogany-to-dark-chestnut. Small, dark beige head of low retention. Interesting fruitiness from the yeast with well attenuated toast and light caramel malt. Pepper and herbal hops are clean and more interesting fruity yeast and malt notes linger. Soft, malty, well-attenuated, almost a touch of clean, bright grapefruit and plentiful herbal notes. Really interesting toast, caramel and other unusual malt flavors (hard to describe, obviously more interesting than toast and caramel sounds). Lingering hop bitterness, raisin, plum, rye toast and just enough base malt sweetness (date, raisin, honey) to balance. Been a LONG time since I've had an Uerige, let alone a new one. Very cool to find this and glad it was still as well done as I recall.
