De Dolle Brouwers
Microbrewery
in Diksmuide,
West Flanders,
Belgium 🇧🇪
Associated Venue: De Dolle Brouwers
Established in 1980
We have recently found papers in the archives stating that the first building dates from 1835 AD. Once it was both a brewery and distillery. The founder died in 1882 and the brewery was sold to Alouis Costenoble. The family brewed for three generations until 1980 when the brewery stopped.
Beer brands included COQ PILS OUD BRUIN & COSMOS. In Esen there were six breweries (all small and part-time) and two distilleries. The actual brewer is doing historical research on West-Flanders breweries since 1900 AD, and has got the 'GOLDEN HAMMER' Trophy, a two yearly award for historic research on breweries. This was attributed by vzw 't Hamerken in Bruges on March 27, 2000 AD

Bottle: Poured a medium black color ale with a super huge bubbly head with excellent retention (maybe even so much retention that I regretted using a tulip glass to poured this beer). Aroma of subtle coffee and chocolate with great malt and Belgian yeast which give this stout its own personal aspect. Another great beer from De Dolle.

Black colour. Huge brown head. Liquorice and toffee aroma. The body was surprisingly light. Dry, very rostay flavour with notes of coffee. Bitter finish. A nice Foreign Stout, but I’ve had better.

Bottle: Poured a light hazy yellow color ale with a huge foamy head with perfect retention. Aroma is mostly comprised of yeast with some spices and hops also noticeable. Taste is quite sharp with again the yeast making a lot of impression and spices with strong malt being quite evident. Strong body with some good carbonation. WOW, this brewery seems to always be amazing.

At ZBF 2005 Caramel-brown, creamy head, fully lasting. Tawny body, excellent lace. Light malts in the aroma (typical stout). Lightly sweet, heavily bitter initial flavour. Moderately bitter finish. Medium bodied, average carbonation.

Copper coloured with a truckload of sediments. HUGE head. Citrus-fruity yeast- aroma. Sweetish, frutiy, peppry flavour. Rich and warming. The taste of alcohol may be a bit too upfront.

Bottle: Poured a real hazy dark yellow color beer with a super huge head with excellent retention. Aroma is dominated by strong yeast with some notes of cloves. Taste is also dominated by yeast but is also well balance by the malt and some spices. The end is quite bitter and the body is full. Another gem from this fine brewery.

Bottle - 1992 Vintage @ Akkurat
Roast, whiskey and almond notes. Hazy amber, low head. I get an impression of rye, some dust and salt. Even at that age a bit too edgy.

Murky brown/orange colour. Nice, creamy head. Sugary aroma. Rich, mouthfilling, rounded, quite sweet toffee-flavour. Just when it’s about to get cloying the alcohol-bitterness comes in and puts everything into balance. A very enjoyable beer indeed.
