Description

Bottle, 6%. Good fruity and roasted aroma. Cloudy, dark, red, brown colour. Big stable creamy light brown head. The flavour is a little sweet with the same roasted note as the aroma. Good, nutty roastedness from the malt, and nicely sweet to balance. The finish is fruity with a little yeast.

Bottle, 4.5%. Fruity, herbal aroma. Cloudy yellow colour. Nice stable white head. The flavour has OK maltiness and a distinct herb/vegetable flavour. Strange.

On tap at In de Wildeman. Dark reddish brown beer, creamy off-white head. Aroma of dark fruits and chocolate, potpourri. Flavour is flowery, chocolate/cacao, slight bitterness. Thin to mediumbodied, mouthfeel becomes a bit watery after a few sips. Nice flavours though.

Good head, very persistent white; hazy orange-amber beer. Sharp solvent nose, to the exclusion of anything else. Smoked-spiced flavours, slightly sweetish and sourish. Some restsugars obvious. Velvety MF, creamy; nice fruity aftertaste. Ho-hum, even when only the nose is really faulty.

Deep brown-orange beer; small beige head. Woody, chocolate-y nose - but it’s English chocolats, the dreaded Cadbury variety - rootspices. Again chocolate-like taste, bark, leafy and earthy; hazelnuts retronasal (Cadbury complete). Reasonably bodied, bit slick, oily, and some astringency. Not really refined, but not bad. Now for the most important question. I can understand the idea of chocolalternative for lesser informed countries. But who the f*** is Dirk Bockstaele and what has he to do with carubroot???

Small rim, over orange-red beer. Sweet, honeyish nose, with a cinnamon-like, spicy aroma, and a somehow salty finish. Sweet-spicy flavour, ending with a sharp, sulphury and spicy bitterness. Fiery MF, and precious little balance. I suspect DMS, seen the salty note at the end of the nose. Definitely sulphury.
