Description

750mL. Canβt figure out the date on the bottle, but they are from a recent importation by the Montreal crew. Consumed on 8/27/06.
Thoroughly carbonated at first, the bubbles rush about violently in the clear, filtered, medium-pink liquid with some auburn highlights. Off-white flecked pink head is about one-finger high initially, but rapidly fizzles to cover and then ring, lacing in very light patches, quite sporadically.
Soft, fleshy cherries are evident in the nose, though by no means is it bursting with fresh, tart, poignant, highly flavorful cherries. Spontaneous notes in the background definitely include light leather and very mild brett tartness. It tapers off in to a vegetal (rhubarb) and green apple mixture that clearly highlights this beers lack of traditional methods. Some light cheesiness and a hint of pale sugars. Noticeably lacking is the oak and wheat character. Still, it retains the pleasant qualities of a well-made lambic and dosent induce any thoughts of artificial sweeteners. Strength is on the weak side, though.
Simple cherry flesh, again, only faintly tart, builds up on the tongue, being cleared by a mildly tart brett and lacto mixture that just dosent seem to go the distance. You donβt get the pleasant lingering tart/oiliness that sits on the lips and teeth and can be licked to near-infinity, of the true examples of this style. Cherries give way to a light leathery/tannic paperiness, perhaps a hint of oak with some wheat dryness dulling things as well. The finish illustrates the filtration most, growing bland, vegetal again, and noticeably high in acetyldehyde. Finish is short-lived. Texture sags quickly, from the artificial carbonation, and it never has that chewy, yeasty mouthfeel and engaging, tight carbonation.
However, filtration, while an evil, is certainly a much lesser evil than artificial sweetener and diluted lambic, so itβs a big step up from the commercial Belgian lambics.

Bottled at Delirium, Gothenburg. Hazy, reddish, clear beer with a pale pink head. Yeasty aroma with some cherries and hints of caramel. Cherries in the flavor, along with both sweetness and sourness, and cellar. Tart, palate-cleansing, and with a sour and sweet finish. A bit commercial? Rating: 6-4-6-4-13.3.3. 060824
Bottle, 75cl corked. It pours a ruby, almost clear body with a small, pink head leaving lacings. The aroma is dominated by cherries, with a funky touch, some lemon and some candy. Nice carbonation, high but nice, tart and medium bodied. Some candy sweetness in the flavor, but itβs mostly sour and cherry tasting. Although a bit on the sweet side and therefore not as quenching as I would like it, but itβs a nice beer anyway. Very nice. 110722

Golden coloured with a thin creamy lacing white head. Complex lambic aroma of cherry, brett, wood, earth, cave, and malic acid. In mouth, an astringent apple, acidic points, ground cherries, with some sweetness. Rich and complex. A wonderful lambic. Bieropholie import.

(Draught at Akkurat, Stockholm, labeled "Sparkling") Colour is pale mahogany, with a disappearing white head. Nose is bitter-sweet with notes of dried fruit and brown sugar. The same goes for the taste: the harsh sourness battling with brown sugar sweetness, hints of dried fruit and notes of barnyard. Rather complex, but a bit unbalanced. I definitely prefer the straightforward harsh sourness of their lambic.

Draught at GBBF 2006. I think that this is my favourite lambic producer and this beer only went on to cement its position, plus SilkTork seemed to like it too! Copper colour with no head. Lovely balanced sour aroma. Soft, slightly sweet even for a lambic. Lovely and drinkable. Superb. Little bit of treacle. Sour, but balanced. Some nice fruit even.

[Draught at GBBF] Hazily golden. Fresh citric nose with some barnyard. Lemon juice on a soft malty body, light sparkling, notes of grass. So refreshing, yet complex.

375ml bottle from The Rake. Toffee apple aroma. Gorgeous toffee colour. Not as sweet as you would expect. Rather yummy in fact with a sourish finish. Extremely moreish.

Wow, well the wonderful world of lambic keeps throwing me curveballs. The more I try, the more I learn that no 2 are alike, not even close to being alike! This one poured a dirty yellow-gold, with a big creamy head. Aroma featured an initial burst of pickled green olive juice, but settled down to hint at some wet straw and wet horse, maybe some malt vinegar. The flavor was more olive juice up front, lightly sweet - somewhat sweeter than many other gueuzes Iβve tried, but it moved toward a drying finish. Acidic and very tart, some lemon juice flavors - but not the most sour and I found this slight, smooth and drinkable.

Thanks to EDA for bringing this to the NYRBG - this has to be one of the finest lambics that has ever touched my lips - the aroma defines earthy and funky - soft on the palate, especially for such a dry beer - champaign/chardonay flavors abound, with a tiny bit of apple cider sweetness underneath that never quite breaks through the sourness, but it is certainly there - a wonderful gueuze.

Tap, in de Wildeman. Hazy golden color, hardly any head, some lacing only. Aroma is tart, horseblanket, hint of hop, fruity. Taste is quite tart, but still very soft, nice balance.
