Description
Life's too short for boring, middle of the road beers. Craft Brewery Kees! stands for tasty, fruity, hoppy flavours and strong dark ales, but there'll always be that 'twist' . That special 'something' that make his beers stand out.

Owner and brewer Kees Bubberman started his brewing career in 2007 at Emelisse, a small regional brewery in Kamperland, Zeeland. Within a couple of years Emelisse became a household name among craft breweries worldwide, thanks to the by British and American beer styles inspired ales, IPA's, strong porters, stouts that Kees Bubberman brewed. Never afraid of trying something new and relying on his experience as a restaurant chef he created more than 30 new beers, including an IPA with Earl Grey tea, barrel aged porters en stouts and strong porters and stouts with coffee. Kees was ahead of his time with experimental flavours like these.

In 2014 Kees Bubberman decided to start his own brewery in his hometown Middelburg. Thankful for the opportunities Emelisse gave him, he felt that it was time to go his own way. Brewery Kees! started in January 2015 and within a year his delicious IPA's, strong porters, Russian Imperial stouts and barrel aged barley wines, porters en stouts found their way in the (beer-)world.

Kees keeps on creating new beers and searching for new tastes, sometimes following and sometimes setting trends.

33cl bottle. Pre Tuska tasting. Deep amber, unclear, thin white head. Grapefruit, pine, caramel in aroma. Flavor has caramel, grapefruit, pine. Sweet, malty. Herbal finish. Too sweet and alcohol coming through too much. The raw hoppy finish is quite nice.

Bottle @ ZEBF 2015. Aroma of mostly peat, some smoke and a little roast. The peat is quite dominant in the taste as well, combined with some roasted coffee, bitters and smoke. Good, but a bit unbalanced.

33cl bottle from Firmabier. Pours black in color with a mocha head. Grassy aroma, cocoa, licorice notes. Flavor has dark chocolate, a lot of it actually, roasted malt, ashy notes. Hoppy, black IPAish. Awesome flavor, not so much the aroma perhaps. Grows on you as it warms up. Solid. Could be fuller, feels a bit thin.

Bottle. Dark brown color, brown head. Aroma of passion fruit, brown malt, chocolate and cream. Taste is quite bitter, with passion fruit, licorice, some pine and a dry bitter finish. More a black ipa than a porter. Nice beer.

33 cl bottle @ Bierlokaal Koffen, Groningen Aroma has nettles, hayish tones and licorice - quite typical BIPA tones. Flavour has salty licorice, some hoppy notes, nettles and some ash. Also some oaty and cocoa tones at the ed of the glass. Finishes a bit leathery. I like the licorice tones here - and the hops are not as aggressive as I feared they would be. Actually they blend in quite nicely.

Black, thick and oily. Roasted malt aroma with a hint of coffee. Quite strong and bitter tasting with a thick, sticky texture. Warming finish from the alcohol.

Bottle sampled at ZEBF ’15. Pours near black with a ring bubble brown head. Aroma of massive peat, oak, dark chocolate, roast and coffee. Flavour is light heavy sweet and bitter with a massive boozy peat palate. Medium to full bodied with soft carbonation. Decent but the barrel is really overpowering.

Bottle @ benzai. Brown colour with a small beige head. Smells chocolate, roasty, moccha, sweet, nice. Tastes coffee, roasty, sweet, moccha and a hint of tobacco. Only 3.5% abv and still an almost medium body. This beer is severely underrated imo. Medium body, soft carbo, nice.
