Description
110 years of Contreras in a 190 year old brewery. In 1818 Brewery Latte was founded as a typical farm-brewery. In the second half of the 19th century the company was led by Valère Latte who sold the brewery in 1898 to René Contreras. In 1920 René Contreras chose to sell his brewery to his nephew Marcel Contreras. it was Marcel who would transform the brewery into a modern 20th century company. He shaped the buildings as they currently still remain. In 1982 Marcel's son Willy became the sole manager of the brewery. At the start of the 21st century Ann Contreras, the only daughter of Willy Contreras, and her fiancée Frederik De Vrieze gradually took over the daily management of the brewery.

On tap at Eiderdown. Pours deep golden with small white head into a snifter. Little lacing, medium body, light carbonation, and spicy citrus aroma. Taste is spicy dry citrus and finishes bitter hops. Wouldn’t seek this again.

Bottle @ home. Clear golden color, slightly creamy, medium sized white to off-white head that leaves a good lacing in the glass. Aroma has malts and lots of grains and isn’t very appealing. Taste malts, sweetish, slightly a bitter hint and again a lot of grains. Don’t like it at all: very unbalanced. Low body, low carbonation.

33cl bottle shared by Arve_Christian - thanks! Pours hazy golden with a white head. Malty and fruity aroma with apples, hops and a hint of caramel. Fruity and sweet with some bitterness in the finish. Pleasant Belgian ale. (2012-08-11)

Sampled from an 11.2 oz brown bottle this beer poured a dark brown color with a large soapy-foamy tan head that lingered and left decent lacing. The aroma was sweetish molasses vegetal malts and V8. The flavor was sweetish toasted caramel, vegetal malts and V8. Medium length vegetal malt finish. Moderately full bodied. Sup par.

No head but rim over pale copperish coloured beer. Fresh pale & toasted malts, nice aroma enlived by fine aromahops. Also some grain and/or grass. Toasted, waffles gone too long, gardenherbs in the flavour. Well-carbonated, medium bodied. Absolutely like the nose. If the rest had been up to that standard...Earlier Rating: 8/10/2004 Total Score: 3.6More orange than blond, end totally flunky; good yellowish head, slowly retreating. Nose is lactic, roasted cookies, even some butterscotch... finishes citrussy. Quite bitter initial taste, not hoppy, but citrus-zeste like. Gets sweeter afterwards, without ever becoming really malty. In the end, there’s even a whiff of aroma-hops. Finish is very good & balanced. Medium bodied, slight creaminess; finish feels, as said under ’taste’, just right, as if enriched with freshly pressed fruit juice. It’s more than OK. When the "Mars Especial" came to supplant the old "Maartse", I was less than happy. This first fully new post-Willy C. beer, promesses, however.

Hazy red brown beer. Light tan head. Softish palate. Light creamy malt with a light undertone of marmite. Just a touch of spice and aniseed at the finish. Another light tasty Contreras beer.
