Description
110 years of Contreras in a 190 year old brewery. In 1818 Brewery Latte was founded as a typical farm-brewery. In the second half of the 19th century the company was led by Valère Latte who sold the brewery in 1898 to René Contreras. In 1920 René Contreras chose to sell his brewery to his nephew Marcel Contreras. it was Marcel who would transform the brewery into a modern 20th century company. He shaped the buildings as they currently still remain. In 1982 Marcel's son Willy became the sole manager of the brewery. At the start of the 21st century Ann Contreras, the only daughter of Willy Contreras, and her fiancée Frederik De Vrieze gradually took over the daily management of the brewery.

Cloudy golden with a big white head. Very inviting aroma of tropical fruits, peach and pineapple in particular - makes you wonder, yeast esters or American hops? Flavour has both yeast and hops. Spicy and fruity, especially with that special saison yeast pepper note, but also a nice hop flavour and firm bitterness. This is right up there with Dupont. One of those beers where you just want another right away. And one more.

Clean and foamy in the mouth. Refreshing to the start of a new day in wonderful Copenhagen (Absalon Hotel, 17.05.2009).

33cl bottle from Dranken Geers. Orange gold slight haze with a lasting thin white head. Interesting hoppy aroma. Fresh hoppy. Bit of orange fruit. Some Belgian yeast in the mouth, some fullness from a quite juicy fruity malt base and then a bit of sting on the finish. I thought that this was pretty good. Good refreshing interesting saison. Good stuff.

33cl bottle - pours a cloudy gold, a substantial, lasting, frothy head - complex, earthy nose, with notes of herbs, wildflowers, spicy hops, lemon zest, white pepper, wheat, light funk and acidity - spicy, hoppy and herbal up front - this is followed by some wheat, tangy citrus, wet grass/hay - some husky character - gains a little bit of sweetness near the finish, which is tempered by warming spices and a light peppery quality - there are better belgian ales out there, but this is quite solid.
