Description

Bottle. Small head with short duration. Color is clear brown. Aroma is caramel and roast malt but not very strong. Taste is caramel and roast malt as well. A bit more dull than other German dunkels.

Beautiful dark red-brown beer with a purple shine; smallish dark yellow creamy head, fast gone. Bready, molasses, bit of licorice, cassis and plums in the nose. Bitterish, very roasted taste upon a truckload of mixed malts (chocolate/roasted/pale/Münich,...) bit metallic ending. Titillating, CO² impression MF, with medium to well-bodied, finish is, again, empty. Nose promises a lot, but the finish is really empty. I’m afraid this has been a way more complex beer, once. At least, it’s not too sweet.

Test vom 27.8.2006, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: 10,9,11,10,7,10

(Draught at GBBF, London, 3 Aug) Colour is golden yellow with a huge white head. Nose is malty with a clean grain aroma and grassy hops. Taste is malty with a clean, fresh malt character and a bitter, grassy finish (well balanced bitterness). Some malty sweetness, but overall in great balance. Very enjoyable!

(Bottle 50 cl) Pours a clear, pilsener golden with a white head. Aroma of malt and alcohol. Fairly full body with plenty of sweet pilsener malt and a distinct hoppiness and alcohol in the finish. Not overly sophisticated - like very few pale Bocks are. 160806

A yellow beer with a disappearing white head. The aroma is very sweet with light notes of hops - I find it boring. The flavor has light notes of cardboard (is it from the filtering?), as well as light notes of metal from the alcohol.

(Bottle, Priory Arms, Stockwell, London, 23 July) Colour is dark amber with ruby notes, disappearing off-white head. Nose is malty with cereal, caramel and dried fruit (raisins, prunes), sweetish. Very nice aroma. Taste is malty and roasted with cereal and caramel. Slightly sweet. Firm body but smooth to drink. A nice German dunkel, came as a welcome break from all the bitters on my English holiday.

Bottle. Weak, yeasty, roasted aroma. Clear dark brown colour. Light brown head. Looks a lot like cola. Very powerful liquorice flavour, a bit sweet with a good alcohol bite and a nice creamy finish. Hint of metal. A bit one-dimensional and not as good as expected.

(bottle, with many thanks to pivnizub !) Clear golden, effervescent hue with a nice and slowly lacing foamy white head. Elegant and soft sweet malty aroma with delicate fruity notes of pear and apricot, also shy but present hoppy tones. Soft sweet flavour, Pilsener-malty, taste, light fruity notes, medium body, smooth carbonation; well-bound hoppy notes, drying out the whole a bit towards the end with a warming but not too present alcohol. Not only quaffable but very fine Bock.
