Established in 2003
Back in 2003 we decided to go commercial with our latest creation, a Belgian Dark Strong Ale called “Pannepot”. Not with an own installation, for that we did not have the money yet, however, we proceeded as gipsy brewers. First at the Coulier Brewery and later at the nearby Deca Brewery in Woesten / Vleteren. In 2009, we moved to a school facility in the village of Oostvleteren, and where we’ve been brewing our beers independently since 2012.

Drucken på fat på Bishops Arms Gustaf. Fin doft men å ena sidan lite platt, avslagen, saftig, dammig och med en lite avig beska å andra sidan värmande alkohol, komplexitet och fina söta nyanser av fat, torkad frukt. Doften lovade mer. Bra men hoppades på ännu mer.

Bottle from Havnens Vin & Tobakhus (vintage year brew date: 2018-10-02). Pours muddy dark brown with a tiny white head. Aroma is intense dried yeast, Vegemite, caramel, syrup, nutmeg, cola, port wine, and liquorice root. Taste is medium to very sweet, light bitter, light to medium acidic, and light salty. Body is watery with light carbonation. Finish is long and balanced sweet and acidic with intense notes of caramel, dried yeast, Vegemite, oak barrel, syrup, nutmeg, cola, port wine, and sultana raisins and dried figs. Knowing that the ABV is rather high, it actually feels a bit thin. It is also too sour for a barley wine (if you ask me).

Team tasting at CBJ, thanks to me for the bottle. Clear amber beer, a few tan bubbles never come close to forming a head. Smooth and slightly viscous palate, reasonable fine carbonation. Brandyish flavours and some obvious alcohol. A little heat and a little more spice. Ripe fruits, touch of coffee. Spicy semi dry finish. Amusing but, Struise have done much better and bigger.

Sweet and strong taste with more orange peel flavours, strong boiled sweet, spicy yeast. Full body with carbonation on the heavy side.
