Description
The “Struise” concept is based on creativity, innovation, quality, sustainability and friendship. We started developing beers anno 2001, at a holiday resort in the village of Lo-Reninge, in a small barn at an ostrich farm called “De Noordhoek”. The first beer we ever developed there, was an Old Style wheat-beer, called “Struise Witte”. The name “Struise” is taken from Flemish slang for ostrich. Our brewery coat of arms takes it a step further and features a proud ostrich amongst knight’s helmet, shield and feathers.
Back in 2003 we decided to go commercial with our latest creation, a Belgian Dark Strong Ale called “Pannepot”. Not with an own installation, for that we did not have the money yet, however, we proceeded as gipsy brewers. First at the Coulier Brewery and later at the nearby Deca Brewery in Woesten / Vleteren. In 2009, we moved to a school facility in the village of Oostvleteren, and where we’ve been brewing our beers independently since 2012.

Bottle shared thanls to sjogrolab. Black with tan head. Sweet malts, blackberries, strong whisky, vanilla, alcohol, herbs, toffee, alcohol, plums. Solid sweet, medium bitter and light sour. Full bodied with very boozy feel. Tasty stuff but quite boozy.

Bourbon barrel aged. Really great beer. Carbonation has mellowed out some, but not flat by any means. A lot of depth and interplay between the malts, yeast, barrel. Delightful stuff.

11.2oz bottle. Big, thick Stout. 3 years old, still holds up well. Rich chocolate, honey touched. Really well balanced for a 14% beer. Belgian yeast is restrained. Awesome malt tone. Great beer. The lack of barrel aging in a beer like this is refreshing.

330mL bottled May 19, 2020, from Bow Street Beverage shelf, drunk 11/13/25. As pictured.
Well that's kind of insane. No oxidation, not too sweet, not too tannic. Just fruity, heavy mineral and peppery wine with light richness from the port and soft, aged fruitiness from the Margaux. No alcohol, no sugar.
Wow, that is something. Dry, malty, rich and full of well-aged, mildly spicy, big mineral wine with light juiciness and easygoing black pepper. Vanilla, light wood...no alcohol, no sugar...everything here is subtle and understated, yet the malt is rich and flavorful. No crude phenols, esters, sharp alcohol. I don't know, this is mind blowing stuff at this point, and sat on the shelf warm in a tiny bottle. Really can't say enough about what Urbain and Carlo did for the Belgian strong ale style.

A mild haze on this deep amber brown beer, small bubbly pale tan head. Airy palate, smooth and semi dry, good fine minerally carbonation. Surprisingly thin bodied malts, a little ripe unsweet caramel. Ripe wet wood and mild esters. Back end is good fruity brandy. Some juicy plummy fruits and ripe pruney fruits, all with that brandy richness. Light and semi dry finish. A very tasty and quaffable brew if thinner bodied than I would like.

A red copper barley wine with no head. In aroma, sweet fruity caramel malt with vinous notes, alcohol warmth, treacle, light butterscotch, very nice. In mouth, a nice sweet fruity caramel malt with light woody notes, licorice, alcohol warmth, very nice and smooth. On tap at l'autre oeil. Not sure which version this is... Pedro Ximenez and Glen Grant barrel aged. 12.6.

Big thank you to kappldav123 for this dusty 0,33 l bottle. Bottling date 18.02.2016. Nearly black in the glass, small short living beige head. Intensive dark fruity aroma, malt and vanilla. Taste starts malty with dark fruity elements, increasing dry and tart. Choco and vanilla in the background. Smooth and slick, complex. Little bit alcoholic. No real carbonation. Very interesting well aged stuff.

Bottle at TripelB, Worcester, Wednesday 22nd October 2025 in the company of Mum, Keith. Pours dark, murky brown, nice off white head. Nice aroma, wet boozy wood, liquorice, (mum gets Marmite) there's a beefy touch, brandy comes through but doesn't intrude, taste is similar, it's a nice blend.
