Description
The Bullfinch Brewery was first set up in the kitchen of former travelling sound engineer, beer enthusiast and home brewer Ryan Mclean.
Ryan's travels have ignited a passion and love for great beer. His continuing commitment to the quality of beer and his enthusiasm have created Bullfinch Brewery and its contemporary take on craft beer here in the UK.
Ryan has been brewing professionally since 2014 and is making progressive beers that blend experimental ideas with traditional brewing methods and techniques.
Hidden away under a railway arch in South East London Ryan can be found brewing his modern ideas on a much loved and used, historic 5 Barrel kit originally built by Charles Wells.

Keg at Bullfinch. It pours dark brown with a thick medium off-white head. The aroma is rich malty action, bready, malt loaf, toasted malt and a touch of cocoa powder. The taste is smooth, toasted grain, roast, umami, earth, touch of ash and cracked black peppercorns with a dry finish. Light - medium body and fine, foamy carbonation. Good for the style.

Keg at Bullfinch. It pours lighly hazy deep amber with a decent white head. The aroma is bitter - sweet, juicy, resinous, pine, marmalade and toffee. The taste is bitter, pine, resin, toasted grass, toffee, grapefruit peel, peppery spice and a touch of alcohol with a lingering dry finish. Medium body and fine, prickly carbonation. Nice west coast ipa.

Keg @ Record Café, Bradford. Copper-amber with a thin head. Strong but retains a hoppy fruitiness with stated tropical notes in both aroma and taste, albeit mildly stewed.

Keg at the brewery taproom. Pours clear copper with a mellow, creamy light tan head. The nose has some ripening fruits, berries, bread, figs, toffee. Medium sweet flavor with strong fruity character, lots of berries, cherry, light caramel, bread, some booze. Medium to full bodied with average carbonation. Lightly warming to finish, just a little sticky, with more ripe and juicy berries, dates and figs, hearty bread, toffee, low bitterness. Overall, it’s really drinkable stuff.

Cask at the brewery taproom. Pours deep brown with a lasting, foamy khaki head. Then nose gives away light roast, milk chocolate, earth, cocoa. Light-medium sweet flavor with decent mocha character, some coffee grounds, baking cocoa, scorched earth, dry wood. Medium bodied with fine carbonation; pretty good condition. Lightly drying in the close, with some bittersweet baking cocoa, scorched earth, dried chocolate bar, bitter earth, toasted grass. Pretty solid overall.

Keg at the brewery taproom. Pours clear, copper-gold with a lasting, foamy off-white head. Raw, fresh hops in the aroma, with notes of pine, flowers, orange peel, some bready malts. Moderately sweet, rich and malty, with piney and grassy bitterness, further flora notes, ripe orange, melon. Medium to full bodied, oily and chewy, with fine carbonation. Sticky and resinous on the finish, lightly warming, with lots of line, more grass, lightly toasted bread, jammy citrus, orange, tangerine. It’s certainly got that punchy West Coast character. Pretty good overall.
