Description

33cl bottle at poechenellekelder, 4.80?. Blonde to light orange color, hazed, big white head good persistence light lacing. Aroma is wrapping, malty light spiced and well hopped, backed by fruity tones of ripe apricot, peach, banana. Taste is greatly balancrd, sweet, umami, moderate cleaning bitterness. Finish is long and gentle, can feel the alcohol but does not burn. Very elegant trappist ale, top quality.

A first time try on this Belgian ale, a proud purchase at De Bierkoning in Amsterdam. I pour most of the 33 cl bottle into another new acquisition, a Trappistes Rochefort chalice and see an orangey yellow body with a thin white head that is steadily replenished. The nose is a pleasant floral and orange-rind. I get with a sip a light plum taste, bread, small hints of sweetness and spice. Nice but not inspirational.

75 cl bottle acquired at the Achelse Kluis’s supermarket, served in white wine glasses. It pours honey-hued hazy dark golden. Ivory head is dense, thick and long-lasting. Aroma is intense roses, accompanied by muscat grapes, dry lemon, quince, smoky, papaya and marzipan. Fantastic smell. Taste is alcoholic yet refreshing, with umami and metallic touches. Oily, mouth-covering, full-bodied. Bitterish, long-lingering finish with more rose to it. Great.

Shared a bottle at home with Rabo. A fine blond beer, but only thing is that the aftertaste is a bit dry.

Sampled from 0.75 l bottle from ’Belgiuminabox.com’, best before July 2016. Gusher! Slightly hazy, golden yellow with a white head. Sweetish, moderately yeasty-spicy and slightly grassy aroma of clove, straw and grains. Slightly sweetish, moderately bitter, slightly yeasty-spicy taste of grains, straw, clove and some Belgian candy, followed by a medium long, moderately grassy-bitter, dry and a bit boozy finish. Medium body, rather effervescent mouthfeel, average carbonation. Okay!

From a bottle, three months past the expiration date. Pours amber with a large foamy head that soon fades. Mild fruity aroma with evident pear, apple brandy. Taste is lightly bitter with a tart, fruity undertone, and just a touch of bubblegum sweetness. Finishes dry, mildly bitter, and with a light warmth. Body is medium with a prickly carbonation. A very agreeable brew.
