Description
Steel City Brewing is a brewing company with a very new world outlook on life! Rather than buying our own brewery - with all the associated cost and hassle that entails - we have decided, initially at least, to become what's known in Europe as a "Cuckoo" brewery... We started off doing our first brews at The Brew Company, before capacity issues saw us move to Little Ale Cart, where we spent three years proving even the most Heath-Robinson brew kit can be used to make good beer! We then outgrew the kit moved to Toolmakers brewery, before moving again to Lost Industry in 2016.
When we started we were (and still are) huge fans of hops and there just weren't enough brewers in the UK using them, even though that sounds ridiculous in today's beer world. So, rather than moaning into our beer, we thought we'd do something about it and brew some of our own! Over time as the beer scene evolved, there was less need for our style of hoppy beers since everyone was brewing with them so we evolved too and widened our style portfolio.

Bottle. Beer Central, Sheffield. Label states 5.8%. Very hazy gold. No head. Big, fresh, oily hop. Quite leafy and grassy. Some orange peel. Hint of lemon zest. I might be skewed by drinking this at 4 o’clock on Christmas Eve morning, having just finished work, but this does smell quite festive! Taste isn’t as bitter as the IBU suggests. There’s a big hit, first off, which mellows, balanced by a spicy biscuit malt backbone. Palate is oily, and full. Soft carbonation, in keeping with the oiliness. Finishes long, zesty bitter. Very nice.

Cask. Gravity dispense. Shakespeares Sheffield. Very dark, chestnut brown. No head. Dark chocolate. Woody booze. Vanilla. Taste is light tart, with some drying, woody bitterness. Tartness on the palate. Finishes dry, tart, and burnt wood bitter. The boozy element from the cask is a bit too up front in this one.

Cask. Gravity dispense. Shakespeares, Sheffield. Very dark, chestnut brown. A film and a few bubbles of tan head. Sour cherry dominates the aroma. There’s sweet, dark chocolate malts, too. A little of the cask woodiness. It’s not a big aroma, but it is pretty complex. Taste is tart, woody dry, with a hint of earthy bitter at the end. Palate manages tart and smooth at the same time. Finishes tart, and dry. If you like sour, you’ll like this. Good stuff.

Lightly hazy gold beer, residual white head. Palate is semi dry and crisp. Very light malts, dry. Hops are a dry pithy orange with a little yellow grapefruit and peel in the background. A subtle but definite peppermint rides throughout giving the beer an unusual slant. Light dry finish. Peel bitter linger. Not bad!

Hazy gold beer, untidy white head. Palate is light with a mild minerally crispness. Very light and thin malts. Nice pithy orange and grapefruit hops, the bitterness tempered by a sweet floralness. Light crisp finish. Mild peel bitter linger. Goes down very easy indeed!
