Description
Steel City Brewing is a brewing company with a very new world outlook on life! Rather than buying our own brewery - with all the associated cost and hassle that entails - we have decided, initially at least, to become what's known in Europe as a "Cuckoo" brewery... We started off doing our first brews at The Brew Company, before capacity issues saw us move to Little Ale Cart, where we spent three years proving even the most Heath-Robinson brew kit can be used to make good beer! We then outgrew the kit moved to Toolmakers brewery, before moving again to Lost Industry in 2016.
When we started we were (and still are) huge fans of hops and there just weren't enough brewers in the UK using them, even though that sounds ridiculous in today's beer world. So, rather than moaning into our beer, we thought we'd do something about it and brew some of our own! Over time as the beer scene evolved, there was less need for our style of hoppy beers since everyone was brewing with them so we evolved too and widened our style portfolio.

Bottle at the Cotteridge Convention big thanks evilempire. It pours hazy gold with decent white head. The nose is big citrus, particularly grapefruit, some grass, hop spice and some creamy rice pudding thing going on. The taste is crisp, big bitter hit upfront... earth, grassy green hops, straw, resin and some sweet tropical action with a lingering dry finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Crisp and damn bitter. No not your typical English Xmas offering! Good.

Gravity cask at Elysian Winter Beer Festival, Ely, 2015. Golden/orange, without a lot of head. Peaches, apricot and cereal dominate the scent. Bittersweet taste with a slight sour note at the end. Medium palette. This is quite good, although maybe not to everyone’s taste.

24th Jan 2014: shared bottle at the Cotteridge Wine meet. Cheers EvilEmpire for supplying this. Really dark brown body with a decent white head. The nose was a blend of roasted maltiness, liquorice and hedgerow fruits. The taste had a bitterness with a citrus feel within the malty base. Different and pleasant, another take on the fairly new style of BIPA’s. I am warming to the beers within this ’modern idea’ of darker IPA’s.

24th Jan 2015: shared bottle at Cotteridge Wine meet. Poured a hazy gold with an off white pillow on top. This is all about the hops and there are plenty hanging around in this brew. They cancel each other out a little though, loads of grapefruit in the aroma and taste but that overshadows the tropical fruit like attributes of other hops varieties. Still a nice beer, and different, but just over hopped for my palate (I am old apparently).

Bottle at Cotteridge wine convention; hazy golden yellow pour with a foamy off white head, tropical fruit aroma, taste has grapefruit, tangerine, mango and pine, a real hop assault on the senses.

Cask @ Old Gate, Hebden Bridge. Black with a small creamy off-white head. Has some roasted malt aroma and taste, but the cherry, although not over-stated is certainly the dominant character here which also makes it feel somewhat like a porter except for the robust texture of the stout which it is.

Cask @ Old Gate, Hebden Bridge. Black with a creamy off-white head. Has a hint of roasted malt in aroma and taste, with the vanilla giving it a mild creamy texture. The vanilla flavour also lingers long in its aftertaste.
