When we started we were (and still are) huge fans of hops and there just weren't enough brewers in the UK using them, even though that sounds ridiculous in today's beer world. So, rather than moaning into our beer, we thought we'd do something about it and brew some of our own! Over time as the beer scene evolved, there was less need for our style of hoppy beers since everyone was brewing with them so we evolved too and widened our style portfolio.

Handbottled from Gazza who brought this along to share with Fin & Loz 18.08.11 cheers mate! Loz said sasparilla on the nose and I have to wholeheartedly agree, I just thought soft drink but Loz nailed it. Some sweetness and then warmth from the alcohol, really dry at the end. Warm gold in colour with a thin white head, I get a metallic twang from somewhere, it’s nice but not as good as some of the belters that we’ve had this evening. A6 A4 T7 P4 Ov13 3.4

Handbottled from Gazza who brought this along to share with Fin & Loz 18.08.11 cheers mate! Fruity nose, bitter but not undrinkable. Touch cloudy, nose is a touch muffled but there is plenty going on it’s just that I am not quite as good as Gazza and Loz when it’s comes to identifying the individual components. There are streaky tendrils of citrus (mostly bitter seville orange and grapefruit) lashing around the mouth, it’s nice, very nice and at 3.2 a great session beer, finish is very dry. Handbottled from Gazza who brought this along to share with Fin & Loz 18.08.11 Real earthiness from the off with this one, malty with chocolate, but with the addition of some soft cooked preserved lemons and a goodly lacing of cocoa powder. This is marvellous and considering it’s a little older than the others according to Gazza it’s held up extremely well. there is grapefruit with some pithiness, its quite soft in the mouth, it’s a belter of a beer. I just needed my new record player in place in order that I could have had Andrew Eldritch and Patricia Morrison aka The Sisters of Mercy belting out the song that this is named after.Much like Kernel it has to be said, Steel City’s greatest attribute is their consistency, another corker. Handbottled from Gazza who brought this along to share with Fin & Loz 18.08.11 cheers Gazza! Pours clear gold with a large foamy white head. Clean aroma, very grassy. Soft in the mouth but a great buzzing clean flavour, touch of citrus rippling around the mouth, bit of lime, another very good beer from the Steel City boys. A8 A4 T8 P4 Ov15 3.9

Handbottled from Gazza who brought this along to share with Fin & Loz 18.08.11 Pours gold with a white head. Sweetness on the nose, some maltiness but there is a tropical squishy fruit that reminds me a little of those rubicon exotic drinks, as Gazza point’s out it is the mango coming through from the Citra. Really nice in the mouth, furry bitterness running across the roof of the mouth, bit dry, but good stuff. A7 A4 T8 P4 Ov15 3.8

Handbottle from Gazza at RBESG Grand Tasting, held at Dean Swift. Deep gold color. Huge estery nose, fruity, with peach, melon. Big kolsch-like flavor but with honey, grains, and esters. Strange and overdone, but interesting.
