Description
It all started with a neighbor sharing a homemade beer. Liz saw how excited Jamil was and bought him a Mr. Beer kit for Christmas. Jamil became obsessed with brewing the perfect beer and became a homebrew legend in the process by winning a first-place medal in every known beer, mead, and cider style category. Eventually, his passion to brew was too strong and Jamil and Liz decided to take the plunge and open Heretic Brewing Company.

We started by sharing a building with another brewery in 2011, but we always brewed our beer ourselves. Within the first six months we realized there wasn’t enough space for two breweries in one building, so we began the search for a new place. By 2013, we had built a new, modern brewery in the wonderful city of Fairfield, California and moved all our operations there, including our new distillery.

Keg @ Canalhouse, Notts. Pours opaque black with beige head in a badly washed glass. Ferrero Rocher aroma, deliciously subtle chocolate and hazlenuts, roasted malts, rich silky smooth character. Lovely stuff.

Micro train tasting with Colin on the way to Siren. Opaque black - brown beer, small pale tan head. Palate is light and semi dry. Milf fine carbonation. Mild dark malts, no roast or bitterness. Mild dark chocolate. Generic nuts, slightly bitter. Light dry finish. Really not the sweet beer I was expecting, in fact it leaves a mild bitter aftertaste.

Tap at The Davis Beer Shoppe. Pours black with a slight tan head. Aroma seems citrus and stone fruit. Med +body. Flavor is lightly chocolate malt with lots of citrus. Maybe some resin creeping in. Maybe some dark treacle. Finishes slightly sweet chocolate and citrus bitter. Well balanced. Delicious.

From a 650ml bottle on 27/7/2014 (shared by Butz with thanks). Pours a deep brown with a medium head. Has a pleasant light chocolatey, nutty aroma. The flavour is more pronounced with lots of cappuccino, milk chocolate, hazelnut and vanilla, with a light roasty bitterness at the end. Has a very creamy palate and moderate carbonation. This is a very tasty, quite distinctive porter.

22 oz. bottle, pours a deep dark amber with a medium beige head. Aroma is fairly hot, with notes of alcohol, caramel malt and a little candied sugar. Flavour brings out candied sugar and alcohol, followed by dark fruits and toffee. Quite hot, but well-balanced, finishing on notes of alcohol and sugar. Nicely balanced, though quite hot. Good stuff.

Hazy deep amber beer, small pale tan head. Palate is light and crispy. Light smooth malts. with thin cream a nice mellow dark toffee streak. Develops more light cream. Hops are a nice mix of pine, very mild skunk and light ripe orange. Touch of marmalade. Mild bitterness before a smooth semi dry finish. Comes together well. Very drinkable.
