Description
It all started with a neighbor sharing a homemade beer. Liz saw how excited Jamil was and bought him a Mr. Beer kit for Christmas. Jamil became obsessed with brewing the perfect beer and became a homebrew legend in the process by winning a first-place medal in every known beer, mead, and cider style category. Eventually, his passion to brew was too strong and Jamil and Liz decided to take the plunge and open Heretic Brewing Company.

We started by sharing a building with another brewery in 2011, but we always brewed our beer ourselves. Within the first six months we realized there wasn’t enough space for two breweries in one building, so we began the search for a new place. By 2013, we had built a new, modern brewery in the wonderful city of Fairfield, California and moved all our operations there, including our new distillery.

Evil bee IPA on tap at the AQ Anniversary Event at Qbrick. Half-pint. Bright orange gold with a dry hopped resinous fruity aroma. Soft bodied that evokes the mead while the bitterness is full on IPA. Good stuff though kind of one note in it’s hop flavor character. Easy drinking and quite nice.

Tap at Watering Hole. Fairly clear deep copper with a small white head that dissipates quickly. Brown sugar, molasses, toffee, rum raisin, dried apricot and alcohol notes abound. Boozy on the palate and super sweet. The candied sugar really stands out. Belgian-like but messy. Too boozy, with a strong alcohol finish and some roasted caramel notes.

This is a very well made, quite subtle DIPA, with aromas of pine, grapefruit, nougat, peach, plum and honey. The alcohol is quite prominent in the mouth, but the hops are strong yet refined, and there’s a nice aftertaste of plum, pine and honey that make this a very enjoyable beer.

Mother Kelly’s. Keg. Clear amber beer, small cream coluur head. Palate is light, semi dry and has mild crispness. Very light malts, some rye spice and very mild sweetness. Mild floralness. Mild marmalade and a whisper of fresher orange. Light finish. Okay.

22oz bomber pours with a clear brilliant amber colored body that supports a thin light tan head. The aroma offers up a mixed of berry sweetness, yeastiness and some mild funky horse blanket. The taste begins kind of neutral before picking up smooth thin sweetness heading quickly into basement like yeastiness. To midway sweet and earthy berry notes come to the surface and take this into the finish.

frothy white head. Medium golden color. Lovely grapefruity nose with sweetness from the honey just edging through. The honey provides a round backbone, but the beer has assertive bitterness. Not very sweet at all despite having honey. Very clean and the honey does round the body very well. Nice stuff, but I also don’t feel its so so different than other Heretic IPAs.
