Description
The brewery Slaghmuylder was founded in 1860 by Emmanuel Slaghmuylder. Around the turn of the century his son Ernest took over the company. He married Marie Van Roy, daughter of a brewer family of Wieze. His three sons opened a new brewery in 1926 which could start immediately with the new brewing process for lager beer. During the war of 1940-1945 brewing restarted for high-fermentation ales. It is only in1958 that the brewery started again with the production of low-fermentation beers. In the mid sixties the three brothers were succeeded by their sons. From 1979 on, the three nephews started brewing the Witkap Pater beers on request of brewery "De Drie Linden" from Brasschaat. In 1981 the Witkap Pater brand was officially taken over by Slaghmuylder. Beginning of theeighties the brewery was equipped with separate fermentation and layering cellars for both high and low fermentation beers. Brewery Slaghmuylder remains a unique family company that builds on a rich tradition.

Rated from old notes. Yeasty, with a faint hint of clove. Reminded me vaguely of a Witbier. Finish is watery. Not much going on here. Decent but rather dull.

Thank you! Sampled 330 ml. bottle @ Kerstbierfestival Essen 2015. Apparently uses a small percentage of corn according to the booklet. A Christmas pilsner is truly an odd thing in Belgium, one of a kind for certain. Clear golden, small white head. Nose is oily, quite metallic, sugar, corn, sweet & oily, touch esters. Taste is oily, metallic, white sugar, sugar, corn,.. Metallic, corn, esters body. Rather dull & not much better than some of the more agreeable pale lagers.
