Description

Tasting at Matt’s
Hazy dark blond color with small head. Mild aroma, a bit different but nice, some cereals, polenta, very light fruits, infinitesimal mint. Soft mouthfeel, light residual sweetness, sweet orange (peel) character; mild hopping.
Nice beer, but at this gravity it really lacks the depth of barley malt.

500mL bottle, sent from Glouglouburp (thanks Dany), pours a hazy golden orange with a small white head. Nose brings out lots of skunky vegetal notes, herbal qualities, and oranges. Flavour brings out fresh oranges, some herbal notes, and light spiciness. Dominated by loads juicy oranges. Not really complex and lacking in body, but pleasant and clean enough. I certainly don't get the 10%. Not very thrilling, but drinkable.

This is one of the most astringent bitter beers I’ve had in a long long time. Same with the finish, a long long bitter nasty sharp poke in the palate. Oh my, this is almost awful. Overpowering bitter thing makes me think I’m chewing poisonous berries. This beyond ipa, way beyond, a long long way beyond bitter ipa. I hate IPA and I think this beer takes the think I hate most of ipa, and then magnifies it - exponentially. Smells like mild cheap perfume. Pale yellow. Yea, quench my thirst, fer sure, makes me never want to drink an ipa again. Ruff ruff stuff.

Tasting at Matt’s, can
Hazy dark amber color with small head. The aroma is full of citrusy hops, some spicy malt. Food body structure; spicy malt with a lot of character, maybe rye, quite sweet, which blends well; resiny and fruity hops complete the picture.
Excellent.

500mL can, pours a hazy dark orange amber with a small white head. Aroma is quite spicy, with spicy earthy hops and an intense dry graininess. Flavour is very spicy and earthy, with resinous hops, caramel malts, and an earthy spiciness. Really quite good for a gluten free beer. Strikes me as a fairly authentic double IPA. Very nice stuff.

From a big can that says RED on it, not rousse frenchy. Candy light aroma with volatile hints. Looks like darker iced tea with a medium rocky alabaster head. A little ruff there on the uptake, hints of tartness lurking but not in yer face. Some coarseness and leather in there fer sure. Bandaid anybody?

Can from Total Wine in Folsom, CA. Pours gold with a slight fizzy white head. Nice citrus aroma, mayhap including grapefruit. Med body or nearly. Flavor starts nicely citrus hop, and then sort of loses with no hop support. Or not nearly enough. Getting some sort of hot burn in the finish. Each quaff starts nicely, and then it doesn’t go well. Gluten free seems to work best when the gluten is removed from real beer. Widmer does some contract beers like that. http://www.ratebeer.com/brewers/omission-beer-company/16562/

Can from Total Wine in Folsom, CA. Pours a dark gold with a white head. Aroma seems citrus and floral/fruit. Med body. Flavors suggest IPA, but the hop needs malt support. Basic problem there. Drinkable for all, the non-sensitive will likely prefer the malty ones.

Can at CiderWISE, pours a clear golden with a small white head. Nose is weird, with some strange grain notes. Flavour is bone dry, with grains, light hops, and a bone dry finish. Quite nicely balanced and constructed. Good stuff for a gluten free beer.
