Very nice mix here. It’s certainly all barrel, with wine mostly and a little whiskey, but wine is predominant. Not much of the original Old Engine in this - all barrel -- but in this case the original beer wasn’t much to start with. A light note of roast, but can’t get a sense of the original beer here beyond barrels. Tap at Pizzeria Paradiso Dupont.

Bottle (2012 Batch 3) shared at DC Annual Epic Sour Tasting, thanks GEV46. Now that I’m finally back from vacation I can enter this rating from the notes I left on my countertop. Poured with no head, dark ruby body. Aroma is mellow malt, light sour notes. Some dark fruits. Flavor is tart, funky notes. Bit of cherry and vinous character in this one.

Tap at Max’s. Sour UK old ale. Solid. Big wine/cherry sour tone. Very mellow at the end of the sip though. The barrel has kind of eaten away at some of the rich malt tones. OK.

Tap at Max’s. Really quite sour, some grape tones. A touch thin at times. Smoky. No Belgian effervescence..more of a cask feel. A touch oily. World Class. Unique.

Draft at Churchkey. Hazy golden amber color, small white head. Aroma of citrus, vanilla, light spice. Taste has mildly acidic cherries, lemons, caramel. Lighter and fruitier than I expected. Not bad.

Draft at Churchkey. Hazy deep golden amber color, small tan head. Aroma has vinous dark fruit, apple, vanilla. Taste is softly sour stone fruit, vanilla, light spice. Totally different than the base beer with much less funkiness but increased richness and vinousness, if that’s a word. It is now.
