Bottle from the Square Orange Cafe, Keswick. Very light yellow, clear with a large loose white head. Sweet spice (I get clove although it's not one of the additions), soft citrus and a touch of elderflower. The taste is sweet and spicy with a light sourness to the finish. Ground coriander abounds in the aftertaste. Heavily carbonated. So-so.

330ml bottle. Dark brown colour with ruby glimmer and average, thick, creamy, moderately lasting and lacing, beige head. Spicy-leafy fruity aroma, notes of blue berries, dark berries in general (bramble, blueberry, black currant etc.), sweet-ish, chocolately malty basis, a touch of toffee, citrusy hoppy overtones with a touch of lime and lemongrass, somewhere even liquorice and treacle show up. Taste is initially citrusy, fruity hoppy, hints of lemon, lime and lemongrass, dark berries, bramble, plum, later more malty, hints of toffee and chocolate; slightly unbalanced, overdone (and over-hopped) and therefore somehow self-contradictory concerning style: Doesn’t stand "Mild Ale" (amongst other things) for maltiness and full flavour at low abv?

Bottle from Beer52. Dark brown with a thin beige head. Smoke obvious from the off with light salt and a little caramel then. Liquorice and blackcurrant follow, then ham, soy sauce, a little gravy and a mild burnt note. Finishes dry and salty. A very interesting brew; I liked the beer, and also liked the obscure Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy references on the bottle.

A very enjoyable IPA in the bitter British style. A surprisingly light colour, but a strong flavour of bitter hops provided the backbone and a fantastic thirst quenching sensation. This was backed up by a long, and quite subtle level of malt that gave a great mouth feel. There was real breadth and depth to the flavour and palate and I thought that this was fantastic. I followed it up with a Punk IPA and it wasn’t a patch on this as it just didn’t have that depth of flavour.
