Description
Spearheading the barrel-ageing movement from Scotland, The Original bourbon barrel-aged beer is the one that started Innis & Gunn when Master Brewer Dougal Gunn Sharp founded the brewery in 2003.

Innis & Gunn was contract brewed in Glasgow at Tennent's Wellpark Brewery since 2014. On 15 November 2018 Tennent's announced the brewing contract will be terminated with effect from September 2020. Innis & Gunn responded the following day by saying they plan on opening their own brewery.

The Innis & Gunn Brewery in Perth is our home for innovation and barrel-ageing. With plans to build a new large scale brewery in our hometown of Edinburgh, it will be the first new large brewery to be built in the capital in 150 years.

Light fruity aroma, a touch of uk hops, and some subtle vanilla and oak. Flavor is quite malty, sweet and bready. A super short finish with a light sweetness. This is really quite good! Wow a good innis and gunn beer? Its one of the rare innis beers that doesnt taste like abd oaky buttery mess.

Quite a bit fruitier than regular innis beers. Some nice ripe fruit, and the expected buttery flavor is minimized with some nice oaky vanilla notes. Touches of breasy malts, and a touch of brandy. Possibly the best innis beer ive had.

Part of the lcbo giftset. Very pale amber/ golden pour. Aroma of pungent English hops, with touches of caramel malt and some oaky vanilla. The flavor is rich bur there is the trademark innis and gunn butteriness that is mingling with the pungent hops. Finish is light on the bitterness but leave an odd grainy grassy note on my tongue.

Very dark amber, and a tight small white head. Aroma of caramel, toffee, and a sweet buttery bowl of vanilla pudding. Flavor is very sweet and again very buttery. Lots of sweet caramel malts, caramel, sweet oak and mote vanilla. Its quite complex but its also quite sweet and its not my style.

Very similar to the regular Innis and Gunn. The oak does seem to be a bit stronger, and the canadian whisky casks seem to add much more depth in the sweetness of the malts. There vanilla, with also a bit more pronounced, and the traditional "butter" glavor i find in all of the innis and gunn beers it a little stronger here than usual.

Loads of peat and scotch smokiness in the aroma with some fruit and touches of oak snd vanilla. Flavor is more peat, ripefruit, smoke, and vanilla oak. Suet smooth and complex and very easy drinking. Easily the best innis and gunn beer I’ve had.

This is basically the same beer as the regualr Innis and Gunn oak aged beer, but it has MUCH less buttery flavors to it. I’m liking this one much more, its not as cloying, and buttery, and it’s much more balanced, and the oak is actually an asset to the beer not a hinderance i find it is on the regular oak aged beer.

good sized off white head. Nice lacing on the sides of my tulip. Aroma is ALL oak. There is a slight funk, with a tinge of citrus, but it’s all dominated by oak. Flavour is again, all oak. I’mnot gettig much else out of this beer, i dont see a huge difference from the original Innis and Gunn beer. There is a tiny bit of hoppy bitterness, but meh, not my thing.

quite harsh i found, the extra days in the oak really comes through. I’m not a fan of this at all. All the faint nice subtle vanilla notes you would get from the oak are gone, its just harsh booze, and BIG oak. meh.......

tonight was probably the 3rd time i have this beer, and I must say it gets better with age. This bottle was much more mellow than the previous ones. the oak really comes through! lots of english hops, and a very subtle vanilla amongst the massive amounts of oak. but the booziness i got in the young bottles is very much gone, decent beer, but near the end of the glass its hard to put down.
